Windermere Weekly Parent Update from Mrs. Nolan:

“Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself; I, not events,

have the power to make me happy today.  I can choose which it shall be.

Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.  I have just one day, today,

and I’m going to be happy in it.”

— Groucho Marx

What a great first FULL week of school.  With the solar eclipse on Monday, it was a great kick off to our year, as students and staff had such a fun and meaningful experience, one in which will hopefully be a great lifetime memory.   Thank you moon and sun for providing us this opportunity!  And, again, a special thank you to our PTO for your support in helping to provide us our NASA approved glasses.  They were awesome, and allowed us to safely and properly view the eclipse!

The quote above was shared with me and I just love it!  It reminded me of what I say to our boys and girls each morning at the end of our announcements, “boys and girls and staff, you have one choice to make today, and that is to make it a GREAT day!”  Ultimately it is within each of us to make it a great day.

I hope you enjoy your weekend!  Enjoy the continuation of summer!

With excitement for an amazing year at Windermere,

Julie

Parent Survey:

About a month ago, I sent out a parent survey to our current first through fifth grade parents regarding their previous experience at Windermere.  This information has been invaluable to our staff, as we are using it to help continue creating the most optimal environment for our students, families and staff.  We received a great response, with 92 of our families completing the survey.  Overall, we were very pleased with the feedback and appreciate the time each family took to provide us with your feedback and insights.

At our first staff meeting on August 14, we talked about the survey data.  We looked at each parent’s response to the first question, “what does an optimal school experience look like for your elementary child/ren?  This includes all aspects of your child's day.”  We then talked about how this relates to each of us, as your child’s teacher and what we wanted this optimal school experience to look like, as well.  We cross-referenced our information to ensure we are working to provide both parents’ and teachers’ hopes and dreams so that our boys and girls are in the very best environment.

As a staff, we watched this following video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZe5y2D60YU

If you haven't seen this video, take a few minutes to watch it!  It's awesome!

We want you, our parents, to know we are listening and care about your hopes and dreams for your child(ren).  We also decided after watching this video, we want you to know why we do what we do!  You all know what we do. For example, I am the principal at Windermere Elementary School.  But do you know why I do what I do?  The video above, inspired us to let each of you know our important “why.”

At Parent Information Night this coming Wednesday, you will see a display in our front hallway entitled, Portrait of a Windermere Parent.  We want you to be able to read every comment that was given to us from the parents survey, as far as what an optimal school environment looks like for your child(ren).   You will also see a display entitled, Portrait of a Windermere Teacher.  Here you will get to read our “why” we do what we do.  We hope these displays give you a snapshot of our mutual hopes and dreams for our entire school community at Windermere.
