Blake Haxton, UAHS Class of 2009

Blake Haxton rowing

Notable achievements at UAHS

Blake was two-time captain of the crew team and overcame a life-threatening illness that caused him to lose both of his legs. Despite these obstacles, he graduated magna cum laude in 2009.

College experience

Blake earned a degree in finance from the Fisher School of Business at the Ohio State University in 2013. He is currently a second year student at OSU’s Moritz College of Law. During this time Blake has returned to the sport he loves, breaking the American record for 1,000 meters in adaptive rowing in the arms and shoulders category. He made the U.S. National Rowing Team in 2014 and competed in the World Championships in Amsterdam. He placed fourth and posted the fastest-ever time by an American in that competition.

Future goals

Blake plans to graduate from law school in 2016 and is training to make the 2015 US National Team and the 2016 US Paralympic Team.

How did UA Schools prepare him for success?

“UA gave me a great academic foundation to build off of after I graduated, but the best things I took away from UA were the relationships I made with teachers, coaches and friends… I can’t say enough good things about my friends from UA. They’ve gone to any length to help get me back in a boat or to and from races, and I couldn’t possibly do any of this without them.”
