BECS Pandemic Response

Pandemic safety protocols

Below are updated safety protocols for the Burbank Early Childhood School building — including the BECS program and the Burbank ESC program.

Entry routine

  • Temperatures will be taken on all Burbank employees and children at the beginning of each day and throughout the day (if needed). Any adult or child who has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will not be able to remain at Burbank.  This individual may not return until s/he is fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medication. Staff will conduct symptom assessments and/or temperature checks throughout the day consistent with Illness Policy.
  • All children will be dropped up and picked up using curbside pick-up/drop off unless specific advanced written permission has been given by the program administrator. Children will not be released to an adult without ID verification (driver’s license or Burbank SafeSchool ID).

Facial coverings

  • All adults working at Burbank must wear a cloth face covering, unless it is unsafe for them to do so.  Cloth face coverings should not be worn if the person has trouble breathing, is unconscious, is incapacitated, or s/he is unable to remove the facial covering without assistance.
  • All children entering Burbank will be strongly encouraged to wear a cloth face covering, unless it is unsafe for them to do so. This facial covering should be provided by each child’s parents. Children will be given facial covering breaks throughout the day. Wearing a facial covering can be difficult for young children and every effort will be kindly made by adults at Burbank to help Burbank children successfully wear a facial covering. Cloth face coverings should not be worn if a child has trouble breathing, is unconscious, is incapacitated, or is unable to remove the facial covering without assistance. Parents should complete a Medical Waiver if the parent does not believe it is in the best interest of the child to wear a facial covering.

Handwashing

All adults at Burbank must follow rigorous handwashing procedures as detailed in Appendix B to Ohio Administrative Code 5101:2-12-13.
  • Upon arrival for the day, after breaks and upon returning from outside.
  • After toileting or assisting a child with toileting.
  • After contact with bodily fluids or cleaning up spills or objects contaminated with bodily fluids.
  • After cleaning or sanitizing or using any chemical products.

  • When visibly soiled (must use soap and water).
  • Prior to departure.

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches

General operational procedures

  • Children will eat lunch and snack(s) in their classrooms.
  • Lunch boxes will not be refrigerated or warmed up. Lunch boxes will reside in each child’s bookbag.
  • Burbank employees should, to the extent possible, prevent groups from mixing.
  • Burbank will stagger the use of any communal space, such as our indoor motor and outdoor playgrounds. Providers should sanitize communal indoor spaces between each group of children.
  • Burbank staff will limit parent and visitor entry into the building. Any adult who enters Burbank will be required to have his or her temperature taken. Adult visitors will also be required to wear a cloth facial covering.
  • During the pandemic, the Burbank school will cancel all field trips, excursions, and large-group events such as parties.
  • Children from the same family, to the extent possible, should be in the same classroom.
  • Volunteers for classroom activities, mystery readers, cafeteria support, and other activities will be severely limited. Volunteers must be pre-approved by each program’s administrator in writing.
  • Children will be provided disposable dixie cups, so they do not need to bring an individual water bottle. Child water fountains will be closed.
  • Virtual meetings will be held whenever possible.

Distance learning plans

If the BECS building ends up being closed due to the pandemic and students are not able to receive instruction at Burbank, all BECS families will still be required to pay their child’s full monthly tuition.  During this time, BECS teachers will provide distance learning instruction.
