High School Academic Program

Upper Arlington High School, one of Ohio’s premier high schools, has provided an exemplary educational experience for the children of Upper Arlington for generations. Each year, Upper Arlington High School students are recognized for excellence in academics as National Merit Finalists and Commended Scholars and International Baccalaureate Diploma scholars, and they consistently bring home honors in national, regional, statewide and local competitions in math, science, computer science, robotics, art, writing, the performing arts, speech and debate, and much more. Upper Arlington High School has been home to students and graduates who have been recognized as Presidential Scholars, Rhodes Scholars, Intel Science Award winners, and members of the USA Today All-USA Academic Team, and one graduate has gone on to win a Nobel Prize in Physics.

At Upper Arlington High School, students can choose from a vast number of courses in the comprehensive curriculum, including lifelong career-related coursework and multiple opportunities for college-level coursework through advanced programs of study such as Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and College Credit Plus. In fact, so many UAHS students choose advanced coursework that Upper Arlington Schools is first in the state in the combined percentage of students taking AP and IB courses.

Upper Arlington High School has a long record of successfully preparing students for their next step in life and consistently ranks among the top districts in central Ohio and the state in the Prepared for Success measure on the state report card. Our comprehensive high school curriculum is designed to prepare our students for learning beyond high school by emphasizing 21st century skills such as collaboration, creativity, self-direction and complex thinking. All seniors demonstrate their mastery of these skills through a required senior project and presentation.

Ohio's learning standards

The Upper Arlington Schools K-12 curriculum is aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards. These standards explain the knowledge and skills Ohio students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 need to achieve. Ohio’s Learning Standards emphasize skills crucial to students’ success not only in school but also in college, careers and life — such as critical thinking and problem solving.

Ohio graduation requirements

Upper Arlington Schools is committed to challenging and supporting every student, every step of the way — to ensure their success in our classrooms and beyond. Our mission guides our work to support every student so that they successfully complete graduation requirements. Students are encouraged to carefully plan a program of studies that will assist them in reaching their educational and occupational goals.

Due to changes in state law, Ohio has introduced new graduation requirements for students in the classes of 2021 and beyond. Upper Arlington High School will make every effort to keep students and parents informed about the status of progress toward completing the necessary coursework for graduation requirements. Families may access the Ohio Department of Education’s Graduation Requirements webpage to find the information corresponding to the graduating class for their students.
