Wickliffe Kindergarten Program

Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School is excited to welcome the Upper Arlington Class of 2034 this fall! Founded in 1972, Wickliffe is a choice school that offers the progressive / informal instructional program to students living within the Greensview, Windermere and Tremont attendance areas

Beginning in the fall of 2021, Upper Arlington Schools will be launching a new all-day kindergarten program at all five elementary schools, including Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School. Our all-day kindergarten program will build on the high-quality academic program offered in the Upper Arlington Schools. All-day kindergarten will better meet the needs of our developing learners so that they are able to learn and grow academically, socially and emotionally. The full-day program provides more time to develop students’ skills in the core academic areas while also maintaining our focus on developing the whole child through social and emotional learning and growth.

Thank you to all of the families who joined us for the Tremont Elementary School virtual kindergarten information night on February 4. If you were unable to attend the webinar, you can view a full recording of the meeting and the meeting presentation below.

Children who will be 5 years of age on or before September 30, 2021, are eligible for kindergarten during the 2021-2022 school year.

The kindergarten registration window will open on Monday, February 8. We encourage families to complete the registration process between February 8 and March 10 for staffing and planning purposes.

Please visit our kindergarten registration website to learn more about upcoming kindergarten information nights, the registration process and what documents to prepare now before registration begins.

Kindergarten screenings will be held during the first week of August. Our kindergarten screenings are an opportunity for us to learn more about your child as a learner and a new member of our school community.

More details about kindergarten screening appointments for incoming students will come at a later date from your principal.

Take a virtual tour of the new Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School! Our new school was completed for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

At Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School, our school day is from 8:15 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. (For the current 2020-2021 school year only, our school day hours are different as Windermere Elementary School is temporarily located in the old Wickliffe building due to construction.)

For our incoming kindergarten students, the school day will be structured to support them as they adjust to a full-day learning program. The school day will be built around the learning blocks for the core content areas - math, reading, writing, science/social studies - with time for play and “brain breaks” woven in throughout the day. Students will have time to work with teachers individually or in small groups to support their learning and reinforce or extend where needed.  Each week, students will also have a related arts block that rotates between music, art and PE.

our program

Wickliffe was founded in 1972 by a group of educators, parents and OSU professors who were committed to a common educational philosophy reflected through the practices of progressive education. Our daily teaching practices are guided by the Ten Foundational Principles of Progressive Education

Classes are configured in multi-age groupings — K/1, 2/3 and 4/5 — for a two-year teacher experience.

The health office is a very friendly place for students at Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School. We are here for Wickliffe students, to help them with their medical needs as well as helping them adjust to the school environment. We are here for you and your student every day of the week. We have a passion for working with young children and helping them feel their best so they are ready to learn.

Please visit our District Health Office and Forms page to access needed health forms and our Wickliffe Health Office page for additional information about our services.
