Artificial Intelligence in Schools

As part of the Excellence & Innovation 2030 Strategic Plan, Upper Arlington Schools convened an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Steering Committee that spent the 2024-2025 and 2025-26 school years researching, evaluating and defining a clear vision and strategic direction for the integration and use of AI in our schools.

Along with many families, the district shares concerns about unrestricted screen and device time. This is why we use intentional, high-impact tools that build skillsets for active learning experiences. The district also recognizes that AI is rapidly becoming an essential part of daily life and is embedded in many programs, sites and tools we regularly use. AI and purposeful EdTech tools can handle many tasks, allowing for more one-on-one mentoring and emotional support between the teacher and student.  AI will be embedded in all future careers, and we are committed to preparing our students and staff to thrive in this evolving landscape while protecting and developing the human relationships in our schools.

To continue our AI development journey, we are convening an AI Readiness Framework Committee during the 2026-2027 school year to outline the AI literacy skills we want  K-12 students to develop.  This cross-curricular committee brings together various stakeholders to map an Upper Arlington-specific framework that aligns with the Profile of an Engaged Learner and meets guidelines developed by the AI Steering Committee.
