The Upper Arlington High School ice hockey team won its first state championship in program history, defeating Cleveland St. Ignatius 5-2 on March 9 at Nationwide Arena.

The Golden Bears advanced to the state finals — also a first for the program — after defeating Mentor 7-2 in the semifinals on March 8.

Against St. Ignatius, UA led 1-0 after the first two periods before breaking away with four unanswered goals to clinch the state title. Sophomore Ben S. and senior Jason D. scored two goals each, and junior Connor H. scored one. Junior goalie Mason H. finished the game with 34 saves.
