Find your place in your school community through your PTO

The start of a new school year brings more than new teachers, classrooms and routines — it's also an opportunity for families to become part of the life of their school. One of the best ways to do that is by joining your school's parent-teacher organization (PTO).

Upper Arlington Schools is fortunate to have active PTOs at every school, with volunteers who help create meaningful experiences for students, support staff and strengthen school communities.

"As I begin my final year as a mom of UA students, I find myself reflecting on my years of PTO involvement. Without question, those experiences have shaped some of my most meaningful memories as a UA parent," shared Krystin Macaluso, president of the Upper Arlington High School PTO.

"From the elementary years through high school, I've seen firsthand how parent involvement strengthens our schools, enriches the student experience and builds a stronger sense of community for every family."

Getting involved doesn't have to mean taking on a major leadership role. Help plan a school event, serve on a committee, attend a monthly meeting or simply support a fundraiser. Whether you have a few hours to give or can volunteer throughout the year, every contribution matters.

"Your unique skills and perspective can make a lasting difference," Macaluso said. "You may find, as I have, that the friendships, connections and memories you gain are just as rewarding as the impact you make."

Each fall, school PTOs welcome new members through their annual membership drives. Memberships and donations help fund programs and opportunities that directly benefit students and staff, including teacher mini-grants, author visits, field trips, student scholarships, new student events and much more.
