Strength in Team Staff Spotlight: Amy Mumaw of Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School
This year, we will be highlighting the people who contribute to the strength of our team by making our schools and our district such a special place for students.
Amy Mumaw, Intervention Specialist / OG at Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School
How do you contribute to your school/department and the school district as a whole? At Wickliffe, we provide a progressive education with a positive flare. We Love Out Loud! I spread love to students, staff and parents through support and positive feedback. The support in our community is second to none. I embrace and celebrate everything we are so fortunate to have here in Upper Arlington!
What inspires you / motivates you in your role? I am motivated to create a safe learning environment where students feel safe taking risks. I love seeing my students grow as readers. I celebrate all victories while teaching them to stay positive and never give up, even when things are challenging. “Teaching might even be the greatest of arts since the medium is the human spirit and mind.”
What is a memorable moment, or your proudest moment at UA Schools in your 8 years with Upper Arlington Schools? I am proud of the amazing relationships I have built with students, staff and parents! A favorite memory was seeing a student while out at one of our favorite dinner spots (Morettis). I missed him at school as we had to put our dog down. He was so apologetic and sweet. A little while later, he returned to our table and said, “Mrs. Mumaw, I am so sorry about your dog. Can I give you a hug?” He had genuine worry for my family and was very concerned when I would be back to help him the next day. Also, I loved a parent dropping pepperoni rolls off on a snow day!
What brings you joy outside of work? I love meeting people and talking. My family and friends swear I know everyone! That’s to say, I haven’t ever met a stranger. I love trying new restaurants and adventures!
I enjoy watching my children, Ashton and Brock, swim and play soccer. I also have five sisters; we all vacation with our families every other summer. On our latest trip, 25 of us went to Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole. This summer, we are headed to Acadia in Maine.
What Wickliffe Principal Angela Evans has to say about Amy: Amy consistently goes above and beyond to integrate creative service-learning projects while ensuring IEP minutes are met with care and precision. As one of our building well-being coordinators, Amy is instrumental in building community and promoting staff well-being. She creates opportunities for us to connect, stay healthy, and have fun — whether through organizing staff events like “Booing” in October, leading our walking challenge, or getting us to play pickleball. She is always thinking of ways to boost morale and bring us together.
Amy has one of the biggest hearts, and her deep care for her students shines through in everything she does. She is equally dedicated to her colleagues, always willing to lend a hand and put the team first. Her positivity and kindness make her a pillar of our community. We are incredibly fortunate to have Amy’s dedication, love, passion, and commitment here at Wickliffe. She truly embodies the spirit of collaboration and community, and we’re so grateful to have her on our team.
