Strength in Team Staff Spotlight: Elizabeth Hayes, Nutritional Services

In this biweekly staff spotlight, we will be highlighting the people who contribute to the strength of our team by making our schools and our district such a special place for students.
Elizabeth Hayes, Nutrition Coordinator, Upper Arlington Schools
How do you contribute to your school/department and the school district as a whole? I contribute to our schools and district by helping new employees in Nutritional Services feel comfortable and confident as they step into their roles. I’m always happy to answer questions, walk them through tasks and make sure they feel supported while they get settled. I also do my best to be there for every employee — whether they need a hand, some guidance or simply someone to talk to on a busy day.
Beyond training and support, I enjoy helping create a positive, team-focused environment where everyone feels valued and encouraged. I try to notice when someone might need help before they even ask and step in when I can. My goal is to make our workdays smoother and help everyone feel connected and appreciated.
What inspires you / motivates you in your role? People, I enjoy helping and teaching others. If I can help and make a difference or just make their work day go a little easier.
What is a memorable moment, or your proudest moment, in the 8 years you have been with UA Schools? I don't know if it's my proudest moment, but it's one of my favorites! I love seeing all the kids at the High School that I had at Windermere when they were little — how they have grown up and become such respectful, young adults. I enjoy it when they see me and still come up and give me a hug, or just say, “Hi, Miss Liz.”
What brings you joy outside of work? Oh this is an easy one! My grandbabies - I have three little ones, two boys and one special little girl. They all live out of state so there are a lot of FaceTime calls in the evenings!
Reflections from Nutritional Services Director Irene Hunt on Elizabeth: Liz is an incredible asset to our department because of the strong, positive relationships she has built with staff across every building. She has a natural ability to make others feel supported, heard and valued, which strengthens our team and brings everyone together. Her consistency, willingness to help and do whatever needs done makes such a positive impact on daily operations.
Liz plays a key role in supporting new employees, strengthening communication and fostering a positive work environment district-wide. Her dedication not only helps our department run more smoothly but also enhances the overall experience for staff and students.
Liz brings a sense of humor with her each day. Her ability to make you laugh or smile only makes your day that much better. We’re truly grateful to have Liz as part of our team and appreciate everything she does.
