Students take the lead as Superintendents for the Day

Meet Logan and Giggi Crawford, who this fall stepped aside from their roles as students at Jones Middle School to become Upper Arlington Schools “Superintendents for the Day.” Their unique opportunity to lead was a result of their family’s generous contribution to the Upper Arlington Education Foundation at the Golden Bear Bash live auction in September.

On November 1, Superintendent Robert Hunt, Ph.D., invited Logan and Giggi to take over for the day. The experience offered them insider access and a unique view on the operations of their schools and the district.

Their day kicked off with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Jones Middle School with Principal Aimee White and School Resource Officer Travis Goodman, where they got to explore secret spots like the basement, attic and even the roof! Next, they made a heartfelt visit to Barrington Elementary to thank their favorite former teachers, Andrea Garvey and Ellen Schooley.

Logan and Giggi then sat down with their new bosses, Board of Education President Jenny McKenna and Vice President Lou Sauter, before wrapping up their day by sharing their creative ideas with architects from Perkins + Will about the future of Jones Middle School.

“Spending the day with Logan and Giggi was a joy,” Dr. Hunt shared, “and seeing our schools from their point of view was truly refreshing.”

Logan and Giggi enjoyed having a new perspective on the schools for a day that was very different from their experience as seventh and sixth graders, respectively, at Jones. However, they were happy to get back to being students and are especially looking forward to having more freedom over their school days as they get older.
