Strategic Plan

Prior to the launch of the strategic planning process, Upper Arlington Schools began gathering feedback to inform a new strategic plan. A significant part of that was Dr. Hunt's UAdventure in the fall of 2023, which resulted in nearly 1,400 touch points with students, staff members, parents/guardians and community members. That feedback — along with other key data points including the superintendent search process in 2022, the Listen Learn Lead community engagement sessions in the spring of 2023, and the districtwide equity audit conducted in the fall of 2023 — has helped inform the strategic planning process.

Districtwide Equity Audit

Three Strategic Inquiry Teams made up of more than 50 staff members, students, parents/guardians and community members were formed to research the three draft strategic priority areas and identify possible strategies that can help move UA Schools into the future. In addition, a Strategic Coordination Team made up of more than 25 parents/guardians, staff members and community members provided feedback and direction to the inquiry teams. 

Beginning with two Coffee & Conversation events with Dr. Hunt in March, there were multiple opportunities for stakeholders to learn about the status of the strategic planning process and provide feedback. This included a meeting of the Teaching and Learning Team, made up of staff members from across the district, in April and a Listen Learn Lead community engagement session on May 9 at 6:00 p.m. at Upper Arlington High School, at which leaders of each of the Strategic Inquiry Teams shared an update and solicited feedback.

Following these opportunities, the inquiry teams came back together to review all of the feedback, using notable themes to update and revise their strategic recommendations in the areas of Engaged Learning, Culture & Climate and Connections, with a focus on continuous improvement through Excellence and Innovation.

In June, briefing papers for each team, Engaged Learning, Well-being and Belonging, and Connections and Communication, were finalized that summarized each of the inquiry teams’ work.  The strategy recommendations were reviewed by another committee of volunteers called the Strategic Coordination Team and then shared with the Board of Education for feedback.  

Throughout the fall of 2024, district staff, including the Teaching and Learning Team, will work to develop an implementation plan beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. Additional feedback will be gathered on the draft implementation plan through building and department visits during the fall of 2024.
