I am so excited to share this awesome, heart-warming video that I hope you enjoy! Please take a few minutes to watch it. Oliver Zane Rouch worked with us to create the video funded through Dave Dygert and First Federal Bank of the Midwest. In addition, our fabulous Mrs. Delcamp helped Windermere and Livingston students to learn this amazing song! Thank you, Mrs. D! Of course, the true beauty of our partnership was what we experienced, and the video is just a highlight to capture it and share with others. In previous updates, we have shared about our partnership. I thought I would share it again below so that you have the information.
Last year, Windermere Elementary held a shoe drive for Livingston Elementary, when we presented more than 500 pairs of shoes to the school. Little did we know that it was the beginning of a partnership that would evolve into something amazing.
After visiting the Columbus City Elementary School, Livingston, and collaborating with principal, Stacy Harris-MacCarthy, it became evident that both schools could learn a great deal from each other. As Stacy so eloquently stated, “Every child should have the opportunity to feel the joy of GIVING and RECEIVING.” But gifts don’t always look the same. The best way for children to understand each other, and understand how they are helping each other, is to provide face-to-face, authentic interaction.
Stacy Harris-MacCarthy, Livingston Principal, Mrs. Stori Rex and I presented this idea to the Upper Arlington Rotary in August of 2017, with the help of Bill Cloyd. Rotary graciously agreed to fund 100% of the partnership. Throughout the year, our students have gone on multiple field trips to each other’s schools. Livingston students gifted Windermere a hand-made rock garden a few weeks ago. If you haven’t seen it, make sure you check it out! Windermere students were able to provide Livingston with needed items throughout their school year. During our multiple field trips this year, both buildings were filled with laughter, fun and learning. Through this reciprocal partnership, all students were able to gain a deeper understanding that, although we have had different experiences, we can connect with others, learn from each other and gain a newfound respect for one another. We look forward to exploring a continued partnership with Livingston. Friendships were made that will last a lifetime!
Author, Andra Gillum, donated her time for author visits, book signings, and provided all Livingston Pre-K and Kindergarten students with a copy of one of her "Doggy Drama" books. Lang Stone donated rocks and gravel to create a “one-of-a kind” rock path. Mrs. Stori Rex organized us and shared countless hours with both Livingston and Windermere staff to help organize us and make our connection a reality! Mr. Jason Hudson, Mrs. Dawne McGuire and Mrs. Beth McCormick led their grade level teams to make sure fun, interactive activities were planned that our mutual students enjoyed! Additionally, First Federal Bank of the Midwest donated the t-shirts all Livingston and Windermere students received this winter.
To the MANY amazing people/volunteers who helped to make this partnership a reality for the entire Windermere and Livingston communities to enjoy, THANK YOU! Kindness is contagious….let’s spread it!
Let Your Love Flow,
