The Upper Arlington girls swimming team won its second consecutive state championship on February 27, edging Mason by 10 points at the Division I state swimming and diving meet in Canton’s Branin Natatorium.
Helping lead UA to its 11th state title overall were junior Katie T., who won the 200 (1:47:23) and the 500 (4:49.5) freestyles; Erin S., who won the 100-meter butterfly (54.25); Ellie W., who finished second in 1-meter diving; and Hannah C. and Dakota E., who finished second and third in the 100 breaststroke. The UA girls’ 200 free relay team also took first place (1:34.07).
The UA team amassed 239 points, to Mason’s 229.
“I cannot say enough in terms of what this group did,” UA coach Dan Peterkoski told This Week News. “All the titles have felt good, but this one is special on so many levels.”
In the boys meet, UA took fifth place (138 points) while Cincinnati St. Xavier claimed its eighth consecutive title and 37th overall.
