The Upper Arlington Alumni Association and Upper Arlington Schools are pleased to announce the alumni and retired educators who have been selected for the 2023 Alumni Awards and 2023 Educator Hall of Fame, respectively. These individuals will be recognized at an awards presentation on July 2 during the Upper Arlington High School Open House, sponsored by the Upper Arlington Alumni Association. The open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., with the awards presentation at 2:30 p.m.

Upper Arlington High School’s girls lacrosse team weathered nearly three hours in delays due to storms to capture their 11th state championship with a 14-10 win over Olentangy Liberty on June 3. This is Upper Arlington’s 151st state championship — spanning nearly a century.

As the 2022-2023 school year comes to an end, Upper Arlington Schools students, staff and families will be celebrating important milestones for those moving on to their next step — whether it’s middle school, high school, college, career or the military. Upper Arlington Schools’ 99th annual commencement ceremony will cap off the celebrations for the approximately 420 members of the Class of 2023.

The entire Upper Arlington Schools staff came together for a day of professional learning centered on well-being on May 2, 2023. The day gave staff members the opportunity to focus on the district’s strategic priority of student and staff well-being through whole group learning and more than 40 breakout sessions to choose from in the morning. The afternoon allowed for every department or building to have time to reflect on the current school year and plan for the upcoming school year as it relates to well-being.

At the May 9 regular meeting, the Upper Arlington Board of Education will consider Greg Thompson for the position of chief operating officer of the Upper Arlington Schools. Mr. Thompson has served as the director of business services for Beavercreek City Schools, near Dayton, for nearly seven years. He has extensive experience in all aspects of district operations, including safety and security, construction and facilities master planning, maintenance, transportation and nutritional services.
