Parent Newsletter: This Week

Hello wonderful Tremont Families!

Since tomorrow is a super short week, this is our last weekly newsletter until after we get back from the holiday. We are wishing you all lots of rest, quality family time and of course TONS of great food over the next week. Click below to access today’s Parent Newsletter!

  • UPDATED INFO PowerSchool Offline Date Change

    • There has been a date change for the Oracle 19c upgrade to the weekend of December 10-12, 2021.  It was originally scheduled for this coming weekend.  PowerSchool will go off-line at 4pm on Friday, December 10, 2021. Due to the amount of time needed for the upgrades and miscellaneous server maintenance you should plan to NOT have access to PowerSchool for the duration of the weekend.

  • Emergency Medical Authorization Form (Colleen Wright)

    • All returning families will need to log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal to complete a quick update to the Emergency Medical Authorization Form. When families completed this form earlier this school year, it failed to capture the signature field, which is legally required. The form did, however, capture whether a family gives consent to, or does not give consent to, emergency medical treatment for their child. You can follow the steps below to access the Emergency Medical Authorization Form:

  1. Log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

  2. Click on “Forms” in the left navigation menu.

  3. Select the form labeled “1 Student Information.”

  4. Under Emergency Medical Authorization, please confirm your selection to give consent or not give consent for emergency medical treatment, and then complete the electronic signature and date.

  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Submit. You must click submit for the signature and date to be saved.

  6. You will need to complete these steps for each student you have in the school district. If you have any questions, please contact backtoschool@uaschools.org. If you have any difficulty accessing your PowerSchool account, please contact familytechhelp@uaschools.org.

  • Vaccine Approved by the FDA

    • Now that the FDA has approved the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5 to 11, if you choose to have your child vaccinated, please consider helping us keep your child's vaccination records up to date by emailing the health clinic with the date your child receives their injection(s) at tremonthealthclinic@uaschools.org

Parent Newsletter: This Week

  • We appreciate families being cautious and keeping students home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness.  Prior to sending your student back to school, please consider testing for COVID-19 and/or influenza, as flu season is now officially underway.  Families may pick up free at-home COVID tests from any school or the main branch of the UA library.  Influenza tests are available through your doctor.

  • Updates from Technology

    • During the week of December 13th K-8 students will have the Zoom app removed from their iPads with the exception of students who may have a specific need to retain the app.  Those needs may include enrollment in the online academy, remote counseling, quarantine, other unique educational circumstances as decided by families and building principals.

    • World Almanac for Kids:

      • The World Almanac for Kids from Infobase is free through InfOhio and is a reference resource for middle-grade students with research content on the arts, biographies, geography, health and guidance, language arts, life science, math, physical science, social studies, and sports. Extensive, up-to-date articles with cross-curricular coverage of topics for intermediate students are found in The World Almanac for Kids. It also includes Homework Help and a robust Teacher Resources section with lessons, printable handouts, critical thinking and assessment activities, trivia challenges, and more.

  • A Note for the Counselor’s Office

    • Dear Families: During the month of December, we will be discussing and making warm fuzzies.  A Warm fuzzy is the feeling you get when someone gives you a compliment or shows appreciation.  K-5 students will be making and keeping their warm fuzzy to remind them to express appreciation to others. We will continue our managing emotions and let’s play groups for our kindergarten and first grade students. Be well, Jean Allocco, School Counselor & Connor Bauer, Counselor Intern

Parent Newsletter: December 8th, 2021

Hi Tremont Families! We hope you’ve all had an amazing week! Can you even believe there is just one more week left before winter break?? We are SO excited to be coming up on a week full of fun, festivities, and lots of joy so we’re wishing you all a restful weekend. Thanks, as always, for all you do to support our Tremont Lions!

  • Pick-up + Power School

    • For a student to be allowed to be picked up by an adult from school, that person must be a contact for the child in PowerSchool. If you want your child to go home with someone who is not listed in PowerSchool as a contact, just call the office to get them added. Thank you!

  • Planned Absence Reminder:

    • Please remember to complete a Planned Absence Excuse form as soon as possible if you are planning to take your student(s) out of school before the winter break begins. Absences are not excused for travel/vacation without an approved Planned Absence Excuse form submitted before the absence begins.

  • A Note from our Counselor:

    • Dear Families:  you may have heard or read the new report from the Surgeon General regarding Youth and Mental Health.  The link for the full report is here:  https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/surgeon-general-youth-mental-health-advisory.pdf We can all do our part to support our youth in America.  Take action for family members and caregivers is presented on pages 16-18.  This section provides tips for use of technology and resources. Be well, Jean Allocco, School Counselor

  • COVID Tests

    • We do have plenty of test kits available for testing.  They can be picked up at the front desk. They are good through the end of the year.

  • Learn about helping children regulate their feelings - save the date!

    • The Zones of Regulation is an evidenced-based curriculum that helps children learn to regulate their emotions.  It is used in elementary schools across the country, including all five Upper Arlington elementary schools.  Learn more about this curriculum by joining Kathy Lawton, Ph.D., the director of Burbank Early Childhood School, for a special parent zoom on Thursday, January 6 from noon until 1 p.m.  The Zoom link will be emailed to all elementary parents prior to the event.  It will also be recorded and posted on the district’s YouTube channel.

  • Updates from Technology

    • During the week of December 20th K-8 students will have the Zoom app removed from their iPads with the exception of students who may have a specific need to retain the app.  Those needs may include enrollment in the online academy, remote counseling, quarantine, other unique educational circumstances as decided by families and building principals.

    • UPDATED INFO PowerSchool Will Be Online This Weekend

      • Powerschool was scheduled to go offline for an Oracle update.  That update has been cancelled.  Full access will remain with all PowerSchool portals.

    • AirDrop Advice for All

      • The technology department advises staff and students to disable Airdrop on devices unless you are actively using that feature.  This will prevent unwanted images/files to be sent to your devices. Tracking malicious senders is extremely difficult and most times impossible.  It is easy to turn off and on:  Settings>General>AirDrop.  Switch to Receiving Off.

    • Belonging Through Books - WOSU Digital Read Alouds

      • A few months ago, this WOSU introduced subscribers to their Belonging Through Books Project, an ODE grant-funded project they are undertaking with local non-profit Harper's Corner to provide diverse and inclusive storybooks to local elementary schools. In our efforts to make these types of books accessible to students everywhere, they have teamed up with some authors from the book list to record a series of digital read alouds for use in school and at home! Visit wosu.org/belonging for the link to their YouTube

Empowering our Parents/Guardians as Partners in their Students' Learning- NEW & EXCITING

  • The Upper Arlington City School District Technology Department would like to partner with our families to improve communication between school and home, and empower parents and guardians to help keep students safe online. We have just completed the setup of the Lightspeed Relay Parent Portal which will give parents and guardians added visibility into internet activity and provide browsing controls for their students during after school hours. This is a simple tool so that parents and guardians can be more informed about the browsing habits of their student(s) and have a way to control internet access to the student’s iPad.

  • Features include:

  • Weekly Parent-Guardian Report sent to your email - sent once a week on Sunday.

  • Parent-Guardian Portal Dashboard that provides a summary of your student’s most recent browsing activity.

  • Ability to switch between multiple students in your family from the same dashboard.

  • The ability to establish healthy screen time limits while at home by limiting internet access on the device to 1 hour, 3 hours, or overnight.  When browsing access is paused by a parent, students will see an alert page indicating that the parental pause is active.

  • Up to two custodial parents or guardians will be automatically enrolled based on the contact information provided in PowerSchool.  In your first weekly emailed report, there will be instructions on how to create your portal account.  These reports will be auto generated beginning the first week of January.

The report will come from the following email address: do_not_reply@lightspeedsystems.com.  Make sure you add this address to your approved contact list or it may go to your junk folder.   Additional details and support will be available in January.  Please watch for communication from your school.

Hi Tremont Families! We can’t believe it is already 2022! We are settling into an already busy and fun year here at Tremont and have loved getting to welcome our students back to the building this week. We have some updates for you today as we get up and running so be sure to click below to read this week’s Parent Newsletter. Wishing you a wonderful and restful weekend!

  • PowerSchool

    • January 14-16 META will take our PowerSchool server off-line at 5pm on Friday, January 14. Due to the amount of time needed for the upgrades and miscellaneous server maintenance you should plan to NOT have access to PowerSchool for the duration of the weekend. This includes students, staff and parents.

  • Lunch Line:

    • As we work through occasional shortages, we wanted to give you a heads up that your students may experience longer lunch lines, menu changes, or a reduction of lunch options for a very short period of time. So far, we have been successful in keeping lunch the same, but we wanted to put this on your radar as families just in case. We are so thankful for the hard work of our Nutritional Services staff!

  • Updates from the Media Center:

    • Hello from the Media Center!

    • Now that we are back from winter break, our number one priority is helping your child find great new books to read. To that end, Sunday afternoon you will receive an email notification listing all items currently checked out to your student. We ask that you please help your child look for any  Tremont Media Center books at home and return items checked out before winter break. If you find that there is an error in our report please let us know!

    • Thank you in advance for helping us maintain our beautiful collection.

    • Mrs. Bugnitz & Mrs. Buttress

  • Just a reminder to be sure that the pick up options for you student(s) are included in the contacts section in PowerSchool.

  • Refresher of our Attendance Policy:

    • The following is a friendly reminder about our attendance policy. It is important when reporting absences to give enough information, so we can determine excusal.   I hope you find this information useful

    • Reasons for an Excused Absence:

  • Illness of the child

  • Appointment with a health care provider

  • Illness in the family necessitating the presence of the child

  • Quarantine of the home

  • Absence due to a student's placement in foster care or change in foster care placement of any court proceeds related to the student's foster care status

  • Observation or celebration of a bona fide religious holiday

  • College visit (up to 3)

  • Absences due to the student's homeless status

  • Death of a relative

  • Medically necessary leave

  • Emergency or other set of circumstances in which the judgment of the Superintendent of Schools constitutes good and sufficient cause for absence from school

  • Service as a precinct officer at a primary, special or general election

  • To help ensure accuracy, please be as specific as possible when reporting absences. Phrases such as “personal reasons” or  “overslept” cannot be connected to one of the allowable excused absence reasons above.

Families are permitted up to ten (10) instances to call their child off school for a health or mental health reason, per school year, without a note from a licensed health provider; these are excused. When ten instances are surpassed, a note from a provider is required to be excused.

Please continue to use the pre-planned absence form for any situations that fall outside of the above excused reasons.  The district can approve a limited amount of hours for pre-planned absences.

To submit an absence at Tremont, please email tremontattendance@uaschools.org or call (614) 487-5170, ext 6060.

Thank you in advance, as we work together to ensure your child’s attendance records accurately reflect the reason for their absence.
