Windermere Weekly Parent Update

9.17.21

Meet our first grade team!  Pictured from left to right are: Mrs. Krista Walther, Ms. Elizabeth Ingraham, Mrs.Teresa Plattenburg & Mrs. Jen Barrow.  We are so fortunate to have this amazing group of professionals at Windermere.

It was a FULL week filled with lots of learning, playing and enjoying the sunshine.  Our Elementary Explorations team, I introduced you to last week, met with our third, fourth and fifth graders on Friday.  This opportunity for both our students and staff, will be such a tremendous asset to our year with new learning for all!

I hope you have had a great weekend!  See you tomorrow.

  • Early Release for Students at 1 p.m.

  • Windermere PTO Meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Eyrie

Morning Arrival:  Now that we have had time to settle into the new school year and review some logistics, I’m writing with a brief update regarding morning arrival. As I shared in August, students should arrive at our school property no earlier than 8:00 a.m. To enhance the safety and supervision of our students as they enter the school, we are going to assign designated, supervised areas for students to gather from 8:00 a.m. until 8:10 a.m., at which time they will be released to their classrooms so learning can begin at 8:15 a.m.  We will walk students through any changes to their morning routine starting tomorrow, so that each student knows exactly where to go and what to do. Thanks so much for your ongoing support.

Stop, Drop and Go:  As a reminder (like when you are at the airport),  please pull your vehicle all the way up to the top of the loop, have students ready to exit the car, and we kindly ask that parents do not exit the vehicle to help their child.  We have adults on duty to help.  If you need more time, please either park and walk your child up to school or loop around the block until your child is ready.  We would like to get our cars through the loop safely and efficiently.  The aforementioned will help a lot!

Pop Its:  These are quite the fun toys this year at school!  Students may bring these to school, however, please remind your child these are not to be traded.  We have talked about this in our classrooms, on Wake Up Windermere and wanted to share this with parents as well.  Thank you for helping us communicate this with your child(ren).

From the Nurse Office:

The September expiration date listed on the BINAX rapid COVID testing kits supplied by the schools has been extended per Abbott Labs to 12/5/21.

Lost and Found: Please encourage your students to check the lost and found table located by Ms. Maria’s office. A lot of sweatshirts and water bottles are located there. Labeling ALL items will help ensure they are returned to your student.

We will donate items during our Thanksgiving and Spring Breaks.

News from the Heydlauff Library Media Center

The Book Fair is back!  Mrs. Hemmelgarn will be hosting a fall book fair from October 4th -October 8th  (including Fall Fest night).  All proceeds will help us purchase new titles for our new space! Click here to view featured titles!  (Books will be charged tax.) We also need volunteers to help run the cashiers.  Please sign up for shifts here!

Want to share information with families about their student’s iPad?

Feel free to share this document with links to resources for staff, students and families.

Covid Information:  Keeping our staff and students healthy and safe is one of our top priorities. In an effort to protect our students and staff from unnecessary illness, we are asking all parents and guardians to perform a basic health assessment (temperature check and check for symptoms) each day on your child when preparing to send your child(ren) to school.

Please do not send your child to school if you suspect your child may be ill, and has exhibited any of the following signs or symptoms of suspected illness: temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher in the last 24 hours;  new or worsened cough; loss of taste or smell; sore throat; diarrhea or vomiting; new onset severe headache; or shortness of breath.

If your student has one or more of the above symptoms, please follow the attached algorithm on when your child can return to school.

Walking Wednesday

Keep walking, Hawks! For every Wednesday that you walk to school, you get a punch on your punchcard. If you haven't grabbed a punchcard yet, find a parent volunteer at either school entrance on your way into the school building on Wednesday. The punchcards will be collected in November for a raffle!

Also, we could use a few more volunteers to help in front of the building Wednesday mornings from 7:55am until 8:15am. Contact Jen Lauer if you can help ([email protected])
