Congratulations to all of the Upper Arlington High School art students who have been recognized in regional and state competitions this spring! 

 

Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Competition — Seven Upper Arlington High School students received a combined 16 awards in the 2022 regional Scholastic Art & Writing Competition, the country’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Receiving Silver Key awards were Caroline K. (drawing); Naomi M. (photography); Monica O. (drawing); Stella P. (drawing); and Ava T. (painting, two awards). Receiving honorable mention awards were Audrey H. (drawing); Lucy O. (drawing); Monica O. (drawing, four awards); Stella P. (drawing); and Ava T. (drawing and art portfolio, three total awards).


Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition State Winners — Five UAHS students were honored as state winners: Abdallah A. (drawing); Audrey D. (video/film); Jacob H. (mixed media); Ava H. (photography, two works selected); and Nayeon K. (sculpture).


Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition Regional Winners — Twelve UAHS students were honored as regional winners, receiving 19 awards in categories that included drawing, painting, jewelry and photography. Congratulations to: Mary B., Greta D., Meredith H., Emerson K., Naomi M., Sophie M., Monica O., Mason P., Stella P., Carly R., Jack T. and Keita W.

Excellence in the Performing Arts

This spring, Upper Arlington High School students brought home high honors in local competitions in orchestra, band and choir. Congratulations to our talented performing groups!


  • The UAHS Symphonic Choir advanced to the state competition after receiving a Superior rating in class AA, the highest level of difficulty, at the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) district competition in March.

  • The UAHS Symphonic Band also received a Superior rating in class A at the OMEA district competition.

  • All six UAHS orchestras received Superior ratings at the Central Ohio String Festival, hosted in the UAHS performing arts center in March.

  • The UAHS Jazz Ensemble performed at the Ohio State University High School Jazz Band Day, part of the university’s 2022 Jazz Festival. Isaac L. (flute) and Lans T. (baritone saxophone) received best soloist awards, and best section award went to the saxophone section — Katia D., Bronwen H., Lucas X., Eric L., Gavin M. and Lans T..



Students Place 5th in Vocabulary Contest

Twelve UA Schools elementary students achieved the highest honors in the WordMasters Challenge, a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 125,000 students. The fifth-grade team scored an impressive 184 points out of a possible 200 in the second of three meets this year, placing fifth in the nation.


Competing in the very difficult Gold Division of the WordMasters Challenge, students from Upper Arlington Schools who achieved outstanding results in the meet include the following fifth graders:


  • Barrington Elementary: Haley H.

  • Greensview Elementary: Marin A., Jerry K., Sami M., Tejas P., Nikhil R. and Matthew S.

  • Wickliffe Elementary: Tycho G., Evan M., West M. and Kate T.



Uniquely Accomplished

The mock trial teamIt’s been an exciting time for our Golden Bears! Congratulations to these students on these unique accomplishments!


  • The Upper Arlington High School Mock Trial team finished among the top 4 teams in the state at the Ohio Mock Trial State Competition in March.

  • The Upper Arlington High School Science Olympiad team qualified for the state tournament in April after finishing 5th place overall in the regional tournament, with several individual awards.

  • Callia P., the editor-in-chief of the UAHS school publication, The Arlingtonian, is the Ohio Scholastic Media Association’s 2022 Student Journalist of the Year. Callia will be entered into the running for the national Journalist of the Year Scholarship. 



Athletics Ticketing Now Online Only 

Golden Bear logoBeginning with the spring sports season, the Upper Arlington High School Department of Student Life is shifting to fully online ticketing for athletic events. This will allow our athletics staff to run events more efficiently while also providing for greater security of transactions.


Season passes are available for $68 for an adult, or $38 for students, and are valid for admission to all ticketed UAHS athletic events during the spring of 2022. Individual ticket prices will be $8.49 for a single contest. Ticketing information is available on our athletics website.


For any senior citizens who are residents of the Upper Arlington community, Upper Arlington Schools also offers senior passes in recognition of their long-standing support of our students and athletics program. Senior passes offer free admission to regular season sporting events sponsored by the Upper Arlington school district. These passes are available to any Upper Arlington resident age 60 or older at the following locations: the district’s Mincy Center, 1619 Zollinger Rd.; Upper Arlington High School, 1625 Zollinger Rd.; Upper Arlington City Offices, 3600 Tremont Rd.; and the Upper Arlington Senior Center, 1945 Ridgeview Rd.

Celebrate a Senior

Please join the Upper Arlington Alumni Association and Upper Arlington Education Foundation as they celebrate this year’s 460 graduating seniors. Each $10 tax-deductible donation will celebrate a member of the Class of 2022 by welcoming them to the Alumni Association. The student will receive an alumni t-shirt and sticker during graduation rehearsal.

Kindergarten Registration Now Open!

Upper Arlington Schools is excited to welcome the Golden Bears Class of 2035 in August of 2022! The school district is now accepting registrations for the 2022-2023 school year for any children living in the Upper Arlington school district who will be 5 years of age on or before September 30, 2022. We encourage families to complete the registration process as soon as possible for staffing and planning purposes. Please visit www.uaschools.org/kindergarten.aspx to begin the process.
