Windermere Weekly Family Update 5-8-22

Windermere Weekly Parent Update

5.8.22

Happy Mother’s Day!  I sure hope each and every one of you is doing something today to enjoy the beautiful weather and sunshine!

A huge thank you to our amazing PTO/families for making our staff at Windermere feel loved always, and especially this week.  We know how fortunate we are to work side by side with you.  The treats each day were so kind, thoughtful and appreciated.  Thank you so very much!  A special thank you to Jenni Chatlos and Grace Malone, our PTO chairs for organizing such a special week.

KidFest 2022 was a HUGE success!  Our PTO co-chairs, Andi Hickman, Kate McLean and their entire committee worked so hard to make this so special.  In my years at Windermere I don’t think we have ever had it entirely indoors.  It was a packed house and all of our beautiful new school was utilized.  Thank you for coming, thank you for making this annual event all about our students having fun, and thank you for supporting Windermere!

See you tomorrow!  It’s hard to believe we only have 3.5 weeks of school left.  We are going to make each day count!

Julie

Congratulations Team Windermere:  Four Windermere Hawks participated in the 2022 Ohio High School Middle School Championships at The Wellington School here in Upper Arlington.  These Hawks were in the Middle School Reserve group.  For 3 of the 4, this was their first ever chess tournament.  Dean D. (5th), Max H. (5th), Drew D. (5th) and Yicheng L. (4th) participated on TEAM WINDERMERE and brought home the 3rd place team trophy!!!!  ASE Chess teacher/coach Don Jones was incredibly proud of their performance as a team.

Yearbooks: Were distributed last week to students that ordered. If you did not order one, there are two extra left to sell. They are $15 each. Please email Ms. Maria ([email protected]) to order. First come, first serve.

Lost and Found: Is overflowing! Please have your students check for any lost items. Everything will be donated at the end of the year.

Student Absences: Please email [email protected] along with your students' teacher if they will be absent. For extended absences, please make sure you submit a pre-planned absence form.

Wireless Usage/iPhones/Gizmos:

As smartwatches become more common among students, parents have asked about settings that might reduce the risk of the device causing a distraction during school.  Here are links to information about school-time settings for two devices we see here at school, the Apple watch and the Gizmo watch.  We kindly ask that students use these settings.  Please know we will always call you or allow your child to call you during the day, if needed.

Listen, Learn Lead engagement process

Please include the following in your family and staff newsletters between now and Wednesday, May 11:

During the month of March, the Board of Education launched a community engagement process to listen, learn and lead in an effort to help our schools and our community be the best they can be.

The next step in the Listen Learn Lead community engagement process is an online survey based on the themes that emerged from roundtable discussions in March on five topic areas stemming from the district’s strategic plan: our district’s strengths; whole learning (academics); student and staff well-being; finances; and communications.

The survey is open to parents, community members, staff members and students through Wednesday, May 11. The survey will take approximately five minutes to complete.

You can click here to begin the Listen Learn Lead online survey.

For more information on the process, please visit our Listen, Learn, Lead webpage.

PTO Update

Wow, what a week, Windermere Hawks and families! This was a very busy week for the Windermere PTO with both Teacher & Staff Appreciation and KidFest to make it an extra fun week. So many fun opportunities to show our teachers and staff how much we love them and support our school at the same time!

Thank you to our Teacher & Staff Appreciation Committee chairs, Jenni Chatlos and Grace Malone for showering the incredible Windermere teachers and staff members with all of our Hawk love! Not only did staff celebrate with a Cinco de Mayo lunch and gifts throughout the week, but so many of our Hawks were able to participate in their own special ways with flowers, notes, and extra thanks all week. Thank you to everyone for participating! It meant so much to Windermere staff.

And we topped the week off with KidFest 2022!!! The threat of rain could not dampen our school spirit and the smiles of all of our Hawks and families proved that.

Three cheers to Andi Hickman and Kate McLean, our KidFest Chairs, and the whole KidFest Committee for the months spent planning the best KidFest yet! With all the bouncing, Take the Cake, Silent Auction, games, face painting, t-shirt tie-dye (thanks Spiritwear!) and DJ Hemmelgarn it was a night to remember.

Many, many thank yous to all of the volunteers for making KidFest so successful! It takes so many parents, friends, former students and older siblings to make the night such a fun experience. And the best part is that all of the money we raise goes right back to our school, enhancing the Windermere experience for all of our Hawks!

With only a few more weeks of school left until summer, we are soaking up every minute of Windermere fun!
