Capstone Spotlight: Paige Plagenz, The Influence of Art on Society

Paige Plagenz

For my project, I wrote, illustrated and published a children's book titled Cookie Moon. For my research paper, I analyzed an 18th century artwork by William Hogarth titled The Tête a Tête from his series “Marriage A-la-Mode.”

Why did this focus interest you?

I have always loved art, and I've always had a passion for writing. When I was a child, I had a dream to become an author when I grew up. At some point, I realized I didn't need to be "grown up" to follow my dreams. So, I decided to start working on the publication process.

How does this project bookend your academic experience at the high school?

Throughout high school, I have been improving my writing and drawing skills through pushing myself to take rigorous English and Art classes. Through this project, I was able to display many of the skills I had acquired in school.

What is your next step after graduation?

I am attending Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where I plan to study animation. By writing, illustrating and publishing a book I realized how much I love the process of telling stories through art. It's an amazing experience to be able to see people enjoying a story you created.
