Odyssey Spotlight: Alden Trotter, "The Room Where It Happens"

Alden Trotter

My Odyssey Project involved interning for State Senator Stephanie Kunze and her lead legislative aide, Lisa Valentine. I worked at Kunze's office a minimum of 12 hours a week, most of which is spent at committee hearings or working on spreadsheets. Three days a week, I take a COTA bus to and from downtown Columbus.

Why did this focus interest you?
This Odyssey Project intrigued me because I developed an interest in government during my junior year that I wanted to explore. I wanted to know the process of managing a government and passing laws. You learn a little bit about state government when you take Politics, Economy, and Government or AP Government, but the best way to learn is to see it for yourself.

What is your next step after graduation?
I am committed to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

About the Senior Odyssey Project
Seniors in the Community School at Upper Arlington High School engage in a full-time, self-designed independent study exploration known as the Odyssey Project. These quarter-long projects may involve career-related experiences, community service endeavors, opportunities to hone practical skills, participation in college programs, involvement in a research project or the pursuit of a creative endeavor.

We welcome community ideas for our seniors. Please feel free to submit those ideas through this online form.
