We are pleased to announce that we will be shifting our main Online Academy elementary platform to Accelerate Education. In addition to Accelerate Education, we will continue to supplement student learning with Dreambox, RazKids, and synchronous sessions with our K-5 students. In Accelerate Education, an adult who is present with the child is referred to as the Learning Coach. You can click here for more information about the role of the Learning Coach.
At the secondary level (grades 6-12) we will be shifting the main Online Academy resource to Edgenuity. Since we offer so many courses at the secondary level, we will also need to provide some courses through Accelerate Learning. Finally, there are about 100 students taking elective courses in Apex and Acellus, and those courses will continue for the time being.
For more details about this announcement, please view this video. We would like to thank our teachers and parent volunteers for helping us with a thoughtful process in a short time frame to help maintain continuity of learning for students.
In terms of timeline, it will take about two weeks for us to be completely up and running with our new resources. We need to work with these companies to get everything connected, train teachers, and schedule students into the courses. During that time, elementary students can expect to continue their learning with DreamBox, RazKids, and small group synchronous sessions on Zoom a couple of times per week. Secondary students will continue their progress in the current platform.
As a reminder, families can opt in or out of the Online Academy until midnight on Monday, September 7 by completing one of the following forms.
Registration form for the UA Online Academy — for any family interested in moving their student out of the school-based pathway (hybrid learning) and enrolling their student in the Online Academy
UA Online Academy opt-out form — only for families with students currently enrolled in the Online Academy who wish to transition to the school-based pathway (hybrid learning)
The next opportunity to opt back into the Online Academy will be in late November, for participation in the Academy during the second semester. Switching back to the Online Academy prior to the end of the semester will not be permitted.
