As we welcome back our students this month, we are excited to share some major milestones in our facilities master plan. The first projects at Greensview, Wickliffe and Tremont were completed on budget and on schedule in August — and the new classroom addition at Barrington is up and running as well.
The Board of Education thanks our students, our staff, our families and our entire community for your support and vision for the future of our schools. These spaces will truly transform the learning experience of Upper Arlington students today and for decades to come! We look forward to having big community celebrations for all of the completed projects in the future.
Barrington Elementary School addition and renovation project
The new classroom and media center addition at Barrington is completed and ready for students to return! This is a bright and spacious addition, with multiple learning neighborhoods featuring small group, large group and classroom spaces.
Work is continuing at Barrington to renovate the oldest areas of the building. We’re excited to see the entire project completed for the start of the 2021-2022 school year.
New Greensview Elementary School
We are also looking forward to students getting to see the new Greensview, its beautiful new media center and the many flexible learning spaces within each learning neighborhood that will be used as extensions of the classroom spaces.
New Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School
The new Wickliffe is also ready and awaiting our students! At the heart of the new Wickliffe are an open and flexible dining commons and a two-floor media center that students will love to explore. Wickliffe also features learning neighborhoods with different flexible learning spaces.
Tremont Elementary School addition and renovation
The renovation of the first floor classrooms has been completed, bringing that project to a close. Back in February, we opened the new kindergarten and media center addition and the renovated second floor classrooms. We’re excited to get students back into all of the new spaces!
New Windermere Elementary School
Our final elementary project is the new Windermere, which just got underway this summer. Demolition work was completed in July, and crews are now working on the new building pad and beginning to dig footers and lay the block foundation. The project is on schedule for a grand opening before the start of next school year.
New Upper Arlington High School
If you’ve driven past the new high school, you can see the amazing progress on the exterior of the building. It won’t be long before it is dried in. Inside the academic wing, framing is well underway and drywall is going in. In the athletic areas, crews are working on digging out the new pool and will soon be pouring the concrete slab for the competition gymnasium.
This summer, the district also moved forward with our planned investigation into the Litchford family cemetery site near the current high school, just off the science wing. Last month, an archaeological crew located human remains during a planned investigation of the cemetery site. We are continuing to work with our archaeological team and some of Pleasant Litchford’s descendants. We all agree that this is just the beginning of the journey to properly honor the people laid to rest in the cemetery, commemorate the site and bring more awareness to the many contributions the Litchfords made to our community.
Please visit www.uaschools.org and look under District News to learn more about Pleasant Litchford and the archaeological work that was completed last month.
Thank you again to our community for your support as we continue building our future while also honoring the full history of this community.
