Virtual walkthroughs preserve memories of decommissioned schools

While construction has continued this spring on budget and on schedule on the first phase of the facilities master plan, the COVID-19 pandemic had forced the cancellation of community events to celebrate the history of three school buildings that were decommissioned at the end of the school year.

The Board of Education truly wishes that the community would have had the opportunity to enjoy final open houses for Greensview, Wickliffe Progressive and Windermere elementary schools — as well as a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the start of construction on the new Windermere.

In addition, while the fifth-grade handprint ceramic tiles from the Windermere building were one of the first things we identified that we would like to save from the current elementary school building, we have found that the tiles cannot be removed from the walls without completely crumbling. We recorded a commemorative video of the Windermere handprint tiles to serve as a remembrance for families.
