March 22, 2020 Update on COVID-19 precautions

We have several important updates for you going into this week. Based on the stay-at-home order from the governor today, we are making some changes to the scheduled pickups this week. The goal is to greatly reduce the number of people coming to our buildings for the health and safety of our staff, families and community. As a reminder, these pickups will be for essential items only.

Please read below and complete any of the requested information that pertains to your family as soon as possible.  Please remember that Governor DeWine has asked people who have traveled out of state to stay home for 14 days. If you traveled for spring break, please coordinate with a friend or neighbor for these events.

MONDAY, MARCH 23 - Essential Prescription Medication Pickup

A drive-through pickup of essential prescription medications will go on as scheduled on Monday, March 23 in the parking lot of Hastings Middle School, 1850 Hastings Lane, for all schools except Burbank Early Childhood School. Burbank families who need to pick up essential medications for their students may contact Jeri Zurhurst at [email protected].

On Monday, parents/guardians may arrive during their building’s scheduled pickup time and pull into the main parking lot at Hastings. Please remain in your vehicles and be ready to share your student’s name, your name and your photo identification. If you have students in multiple buildings, please select the pickup time that works best for your family. Any medications that are not picked up will be returned to the assigned school at the end of the day. The schedule is as follows:

  • 9:30-10:30 a.m.: Upper Arlington High School

  • 10:30-11:30 a.m.: Barrington Elementary School and Jones Middle School

  • 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Tremont Elementary School and Jones Middle School

  • 1:00-2:00 p.m.: Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School and Hastings Middle School

  • 2:00-3:00 p.m.: Windermere Elementary School and Hastings Middle School

  • 3:00-4:00 p.m.: Greensview Elementary School and Hastings Middle School

Any questions regarding the pickup of essential prescription medications should be directed to Tammy Yockey at [email protected].

MONDAY, MARCH 23 - Essential items pickup for Hastings, Jones and UAHS families

The pickup of essential items for secondary students is now scheduled for Monday, March 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hastings, Jones and the high school. Only adults will be allowed in to the school buildings for the pickup, and only during these times. As a reminder, no students will be permitted to enter the schools at this time

Adults will line up — with social distancing in mind — and only 10 adults will be allowed in the building at a time. Look for additional communication from your principals on which entrance to use.

Please complete this form no later than midnight tonight if your secondary student needs an essential item that was left at school such as music instruments or a school-issued iPad.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25 - Essential items pickup for elementary schools

Elementary families who need to pick up essential items — school-issued iPads (grades 1-3), kindergarten iPads for families who do not have a home device that connects to the internet, and music instruments — will have the opportunity to do so through a curbside pickup on Wednesday, March 25. You will be receiving more information from your principals.

Kindergarten iPads: If you are a kindergarten family who does not have access to a home device that can connect to the internet, please complete the Kindergarten iPad access form. Kindergarten classrooms have a set of iPads that are shared between AM and PM classes, and therefore we are not able to send an iPad home with each kindergarten student.

All families will receive information in the coming week on accessing their child’s learning applications on their home device through ClassLink.

Home WiFi survey reminder

Please complete the Home WiFi survey if you do not have home internet access.  You may also complete this form on behalf of a friend or neighbor.  In addition, families may call (614) 487-5000 to let the district know of an internet access issue.

Lunch/breakfast service reminder

We are pleased to be able to offer a free boxed lunch (complete with a breakfast for the next day) to all school-aged children beginning Tuesday, March 24.  These meals will be available for pick-up outside the buildings listed below on all regularly scheduled school days for students. The district calendar can be found at this link: 2019-2020 school year calendar.  Please note that students must be present to receive meals.  If your family cannot come to the school, please email Nutritional Services Director Irene Hunt at [email protected] to make alternate arrangements.

  • Tremont Elementary School - 10:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.

  • Barrington Elementary School - 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.

  • Greensview Elementary School - 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.

  • Windermere Elementary School - noon until 12:45 p.m.

  • Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School - noon until 12:45 p.m.

As a reminder, please fill out this short survey if one or more school-aged children in your home will be utilizing our free meal program so that we can better anticipate the number of meals to prepare.

Important reminders about children and social distancing

Please remember that it is critically important for children to engage in social distancing too.  Governor DeWine officially closed all playgrounds today. Health officials are urging families to discontinue playdates and sleepovers.  While it is important for children to have outdoor playtime and to maintain connections with friends, we need to find safe ways to accomplish these things.

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility as we navigate these quickly-changing times.  We appreciate your partnership in our commitment to the well-being of our students, staff, families and entire community.  Please take care!
