May 29 notice on athletics phase-in plan and public use of facilities

State leaders recently announced an easing of the restrictions on school sports.  Our athletics department has spent the last week planning a safe and optional phase-in of these activities.

On June 1, high school fall sports may resume individual skills training and conditioning.  If your student is part of one of these activities, they will be hearing from their coaches soon.  Here is a general overview.
  • Only high school fall sports will resume OPTIONAL individual training and conditioning activities on June 1.  Middle school and other high school sports will follow as we can support the added cleaning and distancing requirements.
  • Before their student participates, parents/guardians will be asked to complete a waiver form.  No student can participate before this waiver is on file.
  • All coaches and student athletes will be asked to complete a symptom self-check before reporting to any session.
  • Most importantly, please know that these sessions are entirely OPTIONAL.  Student athletes will not be penalized in any way if they choose not to participate in these sessions.

All high school fall athletes will be hearing more from their coaches soon.  If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to Athletic Director Tony Pusateri ([email protected]) or Assistant Athletic Director Spencer Smith ([email protected]).

Public use of outdoor facilities
We are also beginning to reopen our outdoor athletic facilities to the public.  The following facilities are now open to the public only when not in use by a UA Schools athletic team:

  • Hastings Middle School track;
  • Jones Middle School track; and
  • All tennis courts.

Again, please remember that when these facilities are in use by our student athletes, they are CLOSED to all members of the public. The Upper Arlington High School stadium, track and natatorium as well as the athletic facilities at Tremont Elementary School remain closed to the public at this time.

As we phase in the district’s return to athletic activities, we will be evaluating our procedures and protocols to determine when and how we can reopen our facilities to use by local youth sports organizations.
