Updates on optional COVID-19 rapid test kits for students

Dear Upper Arlington families,

I wanted to provide an update on the optional and free at-home COVID-19 tests for students that we’re distributing today.

We have had an incredible response to this program - we are distributing more than 3,000 test kits today! Many thanks to all of the families who have signed up to pick up these kits!

Our school nurses have been hearing from families with questions and asked me to share a few reminders as you prepare to administer the test.

  • Before you get started, make sure you have two devices available — your student’s school-issued iPad and one additional device. You’ll need your student’s iPad to access the NAVICA app (provided by Abbott Labs), which is available in the UA Schools Kiosk. With a second device, you will access your guided testing session in the eMed portal.

  • Please be patient and make sure you follow all the directions on the test kit box to start the process — and follow all steps as directed from a representative through the eMed portal.

  • If you have additional questions about the voluntary COVID-19 rapid test kit program, please click here.

If you would like to pick up a test kit for your student, you can still sign up by clicking here. This form must be completed in advance of arrival at the pick-up site. The tests will be offered for drive-through pick-up this afternoon:

1 until 4 p.m.
Jones Middle School
2100 Arlington Avenue

(Staff parking lot in front of Devon Pool, enter off of S. Mallway Drive)

Again, this is an optional program for students. It isn’t a perfect system, but it is a proactive way to identify positive cases - which may be totally asymptomatic - before those students return to school. Catching things early can reduce transmission and the need for quarantines.

Thank you for your continued partnership in reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community and in helping us ensure the health and safety of our students and staff.

Sincerely,

Paul Imhoff, Ed.D.

Superintendent, Upper Arlington Schools
