The Upper Arlington Board of Education has selected a construction company to build the Tremont athletic fields, the first step in the complex process of making room to rebuild Upper Arlington High School.At a May 1 special meeting, the board approved Frontier Sports, based in Jones Mills, Pennsylvania, to build the Tremont athletic fields and authorized the district’s treasurer/CFO and chief operating officer to negotiate and finalize a contract not to exceed $2.15 million.
Part of the $230 million bond issue that Upper Arlington voters approved in November 2017, the project will build a turf field, baseball and softball diamonds and a support structure on the district-owned land behind Tremont Elementary School adjacent to Northam Park. It will also address stormwater drainage issues on that land — currently grass fields used by the high school soccer and lacrosse programs.
The board previously selected MSA Sports, which has offices in Columbus, to design the fields.
Construction on the Tremont athletic fields is expected to begin after the spring sports season ends in May. The turf field is expected to be completed in time for fall sports season this year. The baseball and softball diamonds will follow, with an expected completion for the start of the spring 2019 sports season.
Beyond its use as transitional and permanent athletic space for high school sports, the Tremont athletic fields will also be an additional recreational space for residents, Superintendent Paul Imhoff said.
“We plan to maintain the park-like setting and want this to be a place our community can enjoy when not in use by the athletic teams,” he said.
