What's next in the Listen Learn Lead engagement process

A community roundtableEarlier this spring, the Upper Arlington Board of Education launched a community engagement process to listen, learn and lead in an effort to help our schools and our community be the best they can be.

“We have seen a lot of energy in our community around our Listen Learn Lead process,” Board of Education President Lori Trent said. “It’s been exciting to see community members, staff members and students engaged in conversations about their vision and priorities for the future of our schools.”

Since launching the process in March, the Board of Education has hosted seven community roundtable discussions, with hundreds of parents, community members, staff members and students engaging in productive conversations about education in Upper Arlington.

“When we think about the future of our schools, student voice is extremely important to myself and the other members of the Board of Education,” Trent said. “We were excited to include some additional sessions for students to really get a better understanding of what they think.”

“The end result of all of these roundtable discussions is that we heard from a wide range of people with different perspectives and interesting ideas on topics like academics, well-being, school finances and communication, and all of those viewpoints helped shape the next phase of our engagement process,” Trent said.

The next step is an online survey based on the themes that emerged from the roundtable discussions. The survey will be open to any and all parents, community members, staff members and students.

Following the survey, a findings report based on all of the data points from this process will be shared with the Board of Education. The report, which will be posted on the Listen Learn Lead webpage, will serve as an important guide for the Board in determining future plans for the district.

“As we shared when we launched this process, this is a first step in an ongoing commitment by the Board of Education to engage our community,” Trent said. “There will be more opportunities going forward — because we are better when we are all working together. We are truly fortunate to live in a community that is so committed to supporting the education of our students.”
