The Upper Arlington High School Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome 10 new inductees who have made outstanding contributions to the impressive history of the school’s athletic program.

The fifth class of inductees was announced during the first postseason football game on Friday, October 29 at Upper Arlington High School’s Marv Moorehead Stadium. These individuals will be recognized in January at the high school.

Congratulations to the 2022 inductees!

Lara (Drauglis) Shaw (Class of 1990) was a seven-time OHSAA medalist in track and field. She was state champion in the 800-meter and two-time runner-up in the mile, and she won a team state championship in 1986. She went on to continue her athletic pursuits at the University of Virginia, where she was named a Collegiate All-American in track.

Chris Dusseau (Class of 1995) was a three-time state champion in water polo and two-time state champion in lacrosse. He was named All-Ohio in water polo and set the single-season points record in lacrosse. He went on to play lacrosse for Notre Dame, becoming a four-time season leader in goals.

Walter Heischman was a teacher, coach and superintendent in the Upper Arlington Schools. He was a 1938 state champion coach and state runner-up coach in 1947. The MVP award for the boys basketball team is named in his honor.

Tricia (Hoptry) Honeycutt (Class of 1988) was a four-sport athlete for Upper Arlington. She earned 11 varsity letters and excelled especially on the basketball court, winning a state championship and becoming UA’s all-time leading scorer. She became the first woman from Upper Arlington to receive a full Division I scholarship, to Miami University, to continue playing at the collegiate level.

Dick Larkin was a head coach of six sports at Upper Arlington High School — football, basketball, swim, golf, tennis and track. He led the Golden Bears to undefeated seasons in football from 1933 to 1935 and in 1937; state championships in track in 1937 and 1939; and state runner-up in track in 1935, 1936 and 1938.

Kristin McCandlish (Class of 2005) continues to hold the school record for career points in girls lacrosse. She was a two-time captain and All-American athlete during her time at Upper Arlington. Her teams won three state championships at UAHS. She went on to play for Northwestern University, winning four national championships.

Ted McNulty (Class of 1969) was the quarterback on the 1968 state championship football team and the recipient of the James A. Rhodes Award for the Ohio High School Football Player of the Year. He led the team to a top 5 national ranking and was selected to First Team All-Ohio Football. He went on to be the starting quarterback at Indiana University (1971-1972) and played professionally for the Indianapolis Caps after college.

Laura (Mills) Moore (Class of 1996) was the first Upper Arlington student to be named Ohio Player of the Year in softball. She was named All-American and led the team in wins, strikeouts and ERA throughout her four years at Upper Arlington HIgh School. She went on to play Division I softball for Dartmouth College, where she ranked second in strikeouts. Moore currently is a teacher who leads the Research & Design Lab at Upper Arlington High School.

Mark Pfister (Class of 1982) was a star defensive football player for the Golden Bears. He was  twice named to All-Ohio Football, was a defensive lineman of the year and was also named All-American. He received a full scholarship to continue playing at The Ohio State University.

Shawn Trell (Class of 1985) was a star lacrosse player for the Golden Bears. He was named First Team All-Midwest and continues to hold the record to this day for the highest career save percentage. He went on to play for Hobart College, winning four national championships, three of which as the starting goalie. His awards include National Championship MVP and the C. Markland Kelly Award, which he received in 1988 and 1989 as the top college goalie. He is in the Hobart College Hall of Fame and the Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Based on nominations submitted by community members, alumni and staff, the inductees were selected by a committee of former student athletes, community members, coaches and high-school and district administrators. 

The inductees, or family members representing them, will be introduced at the girls varsity basketball game against Hilliard Bradley High School on Friday, January 21. They will then be honored at a ceremony on Saturday, January 22 at Upper Arlington High School, 1625 Zollinger Road. 

The Upper Arlington High School Athletic Hall of Fame is continuing to honor achievements of the 144 state championship teams, all automatically entered into the Hall of Champions within the Hall of Fame. The reception in January will recognize the state championship teams from 1990 through 1999.
