Hastings teacher Allison Tomlin named finalist for Ohio Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Hastings Middle School health teacher Allison Tomlin, who has been selected as a finalist for 2022 Ohio Teacher of the Year by the Ohio Department of Education!

Mrs. Tomlin has been a teacher at Hastings for 11 years and last year was named the Upper Arlington Schools Teacher of the Year alongside Carrie Williams, a reading specialist at Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School. Mrs. Tomlin and Mrs. Williams both were nominated by Upper Arlington Schools to be considered for the 2022 Ohio Teacher of the Year honor. Earlier this summer, Mrs. Tomlin was named the Teacher of the Year representing State Board of Education District 6 and, from there, was selected as one of four finalists for the 2022 Ohio Teacher of the Year.

“We are so blessed in Upper Arlington to have exceptional teachers - the best of the best - like Allison and Carrie, and this recognition is truly a reflection on just how amazing our teaching staff is,” said Superintendent Paul Imhoff, Ed.D.

“Allison is a tremendous teacher who embodies our mission - to challenge and support every student, every step of the way - in her classroom and throughout the school. She is passionate about our districtwide commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and is an advocate for each and every student. Students know they can always turn to Mrs. Tomlin for support or advice, even after they move on from Hastings. ”

An Ohio panel of education and community stakeholders will interview Mrs. Tomlin and the three other state finalists to select the Ohio Teacher of the Year. Paolo DeMaria, the state superintendent of public instruction, will announce the statewide honoree this fall.
