Happy Friday, Windermere. The sunshine, blue skies and warmer weather are making us all giddy! It’s so nice to be outside for various activities. And, by the way, we LOVE our upstairs outdoor learning space. A huge thank you to our parents and PTO for funding this in its entirety! It is a special place to have in this building, and when you walk into our building the next time you come to Windermere, look up! You will see this space with the bright colorful furniture. Over the next couple of weeks, students will have an opportunity to use this space for various classroom activities. We love and appreciate our PTO!!!
Our fifth graders have been working so hard today and will continue next week to get ready for their musical. This is a tradition that we are so glad we are able to continue! It’s a lifetime memory for our graduating Hawks. Thank you to Mrs. D and her team for making this happen. We can’t wait to see the performance next week.
Yesterday our MTSS team (multi-tiered systems of support) met to go over our building data by grade level. Wow! We have so much to be proud of, as our students have grown academically this year! All of the hard work shows. Your partnership matters, and we thank you for all that you do at home to support what students are doing here at school.

Drug safety presentation for elementary school parents and guardians
Join school resource officers from the Upper Arlington Division of Police for this presentation on Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m. geared toward families of young children in the Upper Arlington community. Topics will include: current drug trends among youth, safe and responsible storage of prescription medication, and UAPD's drug safety lessons for elementary students. A Q&A session will follow the presentation if time permits.
This event is presented in collaboration with Upper Arlington Schools and The Stand Project.
Signs Every Hawk Should Know: Our school was inspired by the Family Read Together book, Charlie and Frog by Karen Kane. We have a few projects in the works related to this book. One thing we started is teaching all Windermere Hawks some signs they can use to communicate with peers or community members. These signs can also be used in classrooms to silently ask to go to the restroom or answer yes or no questions. Students have learned these signs on Wake up Windermere this week. We thought you might also want to learn these signs or practice with your child.
Windermere Senior Reception: If you have a senior, please make sure they come back to Windermere so we may celebrate our Hawks. Once a Hawk, always a Hawk! This will be held in our Eyrie on Friday, May 27 from 3-4 p.m.

Upper Arlington High School coaches and players are offering several camps this summer for elementary and middle school students! Please see this flyer for a list of these opportunities.
Syntero Summer Group: As part of our partnership with Syntero, Syntero is excited to offer FREE, in personal and virtual, prevention groups services this summer for students. Prevention services can benefit all students! The goal is to foster healthy, adaptive coping skills to more effectively manage life stressors. Registration opens Monday, May 9th at 12pm. Lost and Found: Is overflowing! Please have your students check for any lost items. Everything will be donated at the end of the year.
Student Absences: Please email [email protected] along with your students' teacher if they will be absent. For extended absences, please make sure you submit a pre-planned absence form, in order for the absence to be excused.
Preschool Peer Model Information -
The Educational Service Center of Central Ohio (ESC) collaborates with Upper Arlington Schools to provide preschool special education services to students in the UA district. We operate five classrooms of mixed ages within Burbank and have an exciting opportunity to continue our peer model program.
As a peer model, students should exhibit appropriate social, communication, and play skills as well as the ability to follow directions. All preschoolers in the program benefit from a high-quality literacy enriched program led by an intervention specialist as well as support from a paraprofessional. Students receive instruction aligned to the Early Learning and Developmental Standards through the High Scope Curriculum, encompassing all of the child development domains. Peer models are an integral part of our preschool philosophy, as well as the growth and success of one another.
We currently have opportunities for children to attend either an AM or PM class session (2.5 hours), 5 days a week, in an ESC classroom at no charge. It would be the hope of having your child in the peer model program that they would not only grow towards their personal, academic potential, but they grow in areas of empathy and friendship as well.

UA Mobile Learning Resource Site Updates - Check Out What’s New for Families
Take a look at the new Use of Personal Devices in School page in the UAMobile Learning Resource center. This page can help families set up management of personal devices during the school day so as not to create distractions during school hours.
End of Year and 2022-2023 Student Device Information
All students, except graduating seniors and students withdrawing from UACS, will retain their iPads over the summer of 2022. If a family would prefer that we hold a student’s iPad over the summer months, please have them reach out directly to [email protected].
Students that are withdrawing from UACS at the end of the school year need to turn in their iPad, case, and charger to the main office of their school or The Technology Department at The Graf Center. When buildings receive information about a withdrawal, it is the building's responsibility to collect all outstanding books and technology devices from the family.
The following information pertains to the start of the 2022-23 school year.
Kindergarten - incoming Kindergarten students will receive devices during the first two weeks of school for the 22-23 school year.
Grades 1-8 - Students retain their devices from the 21-22 school year for continued use.
Grade 9 - Students will swap the iPad 6 from their 8th-grade year (21-22) for an iPad 8 during the Freshman First Day in August 2022.
Grades 10-12 - Students retain their devices from the 21-22 school year for continued use.

PTO Update
With just a few weeks left of school, our Windermere PTO is wrapping up the school year with a few more exciting activities and already starting to prepare for next year!
Walking Wednesday - Keep walking and rolling Hawks! Fill those sidewalks for the last few Wednesdays of this school year!
End of Year parties - Be on the lookout for email communication from your room parents regarding end of year parties! Just a reminder that all classes and grades wrap up the end of the year a little differently so not all celebrations will look the same.
