Windermere Weekly Parent Update

Meet our amazing fourth grade team at Windermere, including our gifted intervention specialist.  From left to right are:  Mrs. Amy Graver (GIS), Mrs. Traci Lobao, Mr. Brett Gambill, Mrrs. Dawne McGuire, and Mrs. Allison Blackburn. Our Values, Beliefs and Outcomes (VBOs) are part of our strategic plan in Upper Arlington.  Each team defined what Strength in Team, Starting with Heart and Contagious Drive means to them.  Fourth grade’s VBOs are defined below.

I hope each of you had a great weekend.  See you tomorrow morning.

Julie

Ms. Liz, Ms. Kathy and Ms. Karen:  We know how lucky we are to have AMAZING custodians at Windermere who LOVE and care for every child very much.  If you haven’t met our team, please take time to introduce yourself.  Yesterday was National Custodians’ Day.  We celebrated these 3 women on Friday in our school.  We don’t know what we would do without them.  Below is Ms. Liz.  You probably know her as EVERY morning she greets the students as they enter the building.  Ms. Karen and Ms. Kathy are here in the evening.  We will share a picture of them next week.  THANK YOU to our dynamic trio for their hard work, love for our students and great attitudes.  It's contagious.

Stop, Drop and Go:  A gentle reminder, please make sure you:

  1.  Pull all the way up on the loop.

  2. Have your child ready to exit the vehicle.

  3. If you are walking your child to school, please make sure you aren’t blocking the walkway/crosswalk.  Thank you!

Book Fair:  is this coming week!  Classroom teachers have signed up their class to come shop and will notify you of your child’s day to shop.  To be Covid safe, there will be no shopping during lunch or after school.  The Fair will be open during Fall Fest this Friday if you would like to shop with your child.  If you would like to shop online with your child instead of sending money to school, click here.  Our school shopping code is MEXX3.  All proceeds will go towards buying new books for our collection!  Thanks for your support!

Multi Tiered System of Support:  As I’ve referred to MTSS a few times in our recent updates, I wanted to share our website with you, so that you have it to refer to.

Lost and Found: Please remind your students to check our lost and found table, located by the main office. Also, it is very helpful to have all items labeled so we can return lost items to your

students.

Attendance: Please email [email protected] along with your child’s teacher to notify us of an absence. Also, please note the specific reason for the absence.

Picture Retake Day: On Oct. 14th, HR Imaging will be back at Windermere for school picture retake day. If your child missed school pictures on Sept. 2, they will have their picture taken this day. Log in to hrimaging.com to order school pictures. If you are having your child’s school pictures retaken, please bring back the original picture package and HR Imaging will retake their picture, you do not need to re-order. Please make sure your child’s teacher knows they are having retakes.

Planned Absence: Please make sure you have a pre-planned absence form on file in the office if your student will be absent for travel, etc. You can email Ms. Maria ([email protected]) to obtain a digital copy.

Harvest Parties:

Harvest Parade and Party Schedule for Friday, October 29, 2021

Dear Windermere Families,

Windermere’s Harvest parade and parties will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021. We are asking that students change into their costumes at school. Please make sure your child dresses accordingly for the day, so that he/she may easily change into his/her costume in the classroom.   Please remember that this day is a time to dress up in costumes and have fun for those children who choose to participate. For safety reasons, children should be able to walk comfortably in their costumes. Costumes should neither be excessively frightening or gory, and should be respectful of other cultures and religious beliefs.  Also, per our district’s policy, no weapon or facsimile of a weapon is permitted on school grounds, thus should not be part of their costume.

Mrs. Hemmelgarn and Mrs. O’Keefe are excited to announce they will be hosting a party in the Media Center for students not participating in the Fall Harvest Parade and classroom parties. Students who attend the party will not dress up, but will play games. If you would like for your child to be a part of this event, please email [email protected] with your child’s name and classroom teacher by October 26th. We are also looking for parent volunteers to help make this party amazing. Please let Mrs. O’Keefe know if you are interested in volunteering.

Harvest Party Schedule

1:30 p.m.        Parade around Windermere School  (The parade route begins in the back of the school on the playground and proceeds around the south end of the building on the sidewalk.)?

2 p.m.              Parties in Classrooms

2:50 p.m.        Dismissal

Thank you! Our day promises to be a lot of fun.

Fall Mum Sale - FINAL

Hawks sell mums! We can’t thank you enough for your support in this successful fundraiser. We would like to give a special thank you to all our volunteers on Monday. It was a hot one and we had many many mums. We did it! We couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you so very much.

Walking Wednesday

Keep walking, Hawks! For every Wednesday that you walk to school, you get a punch on your punchcard. If you haven't grabbed a punchcard yet, find a parent volunteer at either school entrance on your way into the school building on Wednesday. The punchcards will be collected in November for a raffle!

Also, we could use a few more volunteers to help in front of the building Wednesday mornings from 7:55am until 8:15am. Contact Jen Lauer if you can help ([email protected])
