We have many important plans in the works this spring at Upper Arlington Schools — including breaking ground on several major construction projects and continuing to take steps to improve safety and security at our schools.
Facilities Master Plan - Construction PhaseWe are entering the final preparations for the start of construction and the first community groundbreaking ceremonies. Construction equipment will begin to arrive at Upper Arlington High School this month and at four of our elementary schools soon after.
We hope you will join us at the groundbreaking ceremonies to celebrate this historic moment for our schools and our community. The groundbreaking ceremony for Upper Arlington High School will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 7. The ceremonies for the first four elementary projects will be held on Sunday, May 19 at the following times: Greensview, 12:30 p.m.; Wickliffe, 1:45 p.m.; Tremont, 3 p.m.; and Barrington 4:15 p.m. A groundbreaking ceremony for Windermere Elementary School will follow in the spring of 2020 when construction begins on that site.

It’s also important to note that while it is exciting to see the first signs that the community’s master plan is coming to fruition, the construction phase will also bring disruptions and inconvenience. We’ll be holding regular meetings and updates for those living near any of the construction projects, and we’ll make sure they have all of the contact information needed if they have a concern about the timing or cleanliness of the work. In addition, we’ll be informing students’ families about project timing and safety plans, and providing construction updates to the community on our website,
www.uaschools.org, and in the bimonthly UAiNSIGHT community newsletter.
We appreciate residents’ support and patience as we implement the first phase of the facilities master plan and build schools that reflect our community’s long commitment to being at the forefront of education.
Safety Measures
The safety and security of our students and staff is always a top priority, and it is extremely important that our families, our students and our community continue to be part of the ongoing conversation surrounding safety.
We will hold our second annual town hall meeting on safety on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Jones Middle School, 2100 Arlington Ave. Upper Arlington Police Chief Steven Farmer and Fire Chief Lyn Nofziger will join me for this meeting.
The district is also continuing to put in place the new and enhanced safety measures approved by the Board of Education last summer. New cameras have been installed at each school, additional school resource officers are joining our learning communities, and updated visitor protocols will be put in place during 2019.
Our new strategic plan will incorporate a focus on safety and security into the well-being goal. We have a team of staff members, residents and professional experts working on the area of well-being, which we believe is the cornerstone for producing a safe learning environment where our students can thrive.
We look forward to bringing the new plan to the Board of Education this spring and beginning implementation in the fall.
