Alumni, Educator Hall of Fame honorees to be recognized at July 2 open house

The Upper Arlington Alumni Association and Upper Arlington Schools are pleased to announce the alumni and retired educators who have been selected for the 2022 Alumni Awards and 2022 Educator Hall of Fame. 


These individuals will be recognized this summer along with the two previous years’ alumni and educator nominees during the Upper Arlington High School Open House on Saturday, July 2. The open house will be held at the high school, 1625 Zollinger Road, from 1 to 4 p.m., with the awards presentation beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the performing arts center and a reception to follow.


Alumni Awards

Outstanding and Distinguished Alumnus Awards have been presented annually since 1993 and have honored many accomplished graduates.  In 2021 UAAA announced the Inspirational Young Alumnus Award. This new award was inspired by the current UAAA board, which includes 13 graduates ranging from the class of 1965 to 2014. 


Recipients of the Outstanding Alumnus Award have generously dedicated their time, talents and treasures to promote the tradition, pride and reputation of excellence of the Upper Arlington Schools and/or the community.


A Distinguished Alumnus has demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas:  leadership, innovation, service and professional or personal accomplishments. 


An Inspirational Young Alumnus has generously dedicated their time, talents and treasures to promote the tradition, pride and reputation of excellence of the Upper Arlington School District and/or the community. Or, is a graduate who has demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas:  leadership, innovation, service, or professional or personal accomplishments. Honorees must have graduated between 2007 and 2021. 


2022 Alumni Awards

  • Outstanding Alumnus: Kim Shoemaker Starr, Class of 1973

  • Distinguished Alumni: Leslie Lehr, Class of 1977, and Chris Gladwin, Class of 1982

  • Inspirational Young Alumni: Blake Haxton, Class of 2009, and John Lowrey, Class of 2010


2021 Alumni Awards

  • Outstanding Alumnus: Rodger Curnow

  • Distinguished Alumni: Rinehart “Riney” Wilke IV, Class of 1981, and Debra Graves Livingston, Class of 1973

  • Inspirational Young Alumnus: Jake Borelli, Class of 2009


2020 Alumni Awards

  • Outstanding Alumnus: Aimee Moulakis White, Class of 1993

  • Distinguished Alumni: Kent Beittel, Class of 1965, and all Upper Arlington alumni who serve as essential workers

Educator Hall of Fame

The Educator Hall of Fame was established in 2007 by former UAHS Principal and former Upper Arlington City Council President and Mayor Kip Greenhill to honor “the best of the best” teachers in the district. The following retired teachers were nominated by their peers and selected by a group representing teachers and alumni for induction into the Hall of Fame:

  • Arthur Lowell “AL” Guesman, math teacher and principal, Upper Arlington High School

  • Lisa Markovich, global language, Upper Arlington High School

  • Kim Rhodes, social studies, Jones Middle School


2021 Educator Hall of Fame inductees

  • Diane Haddad, language arts, Upper Arlington High School

  • James Lambourne, science, Upper Arlington High School

  • Bill Richards, history, Hastings Middle School

  • Kevin Stotts, language arts, Upper Arlington High School
