Update on our Responsible Restart plan and opportunities to learn more
Dear Upper Arlington families,

I have a few updates for you today to close out the week.

Virtual information sessions
I’d like to start by thanking the hundreds of families who took the time to join us for the virtual information sessions on Wednesday! We will offer two more virtual information sessions next week to learn more about our district’s Responsible Restart plan:
  • 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30
  • 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30

We will share Zoom links for those meetings in my email next week and on our Responsible Restart webpage

UA Online Academy
I also wanted to follow up on something discussed during our parent information sessions on Wednesday.  We have decided to use Acellus instead of the Florida Virtual School for the content and platform for the UA Online Academy.

After further exploration, we believe Acellus will be a better fit for us.  This solution will offer nearly double the AP courses of any product we explored, it is optimized for mobile devices, the videos are closed captioned, and it seems to have a superior adaptive technology driver.

We are receiving many questions from families about the UA Online Academy. If your family may be interested in this as an option for the fall, I’d encourage you to attend the UA Online Academy virtual information session on Friday, July 31 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. We will be recording the session for anyone who cannot attend, and it will be available on our district YouTube channel

Board of Education special meeting
Next Tuesday, July 28, the Board of Education will hold a special meeting to review and take action on the district’s Responsible Restart plan. Officials from the Franklin County Health Department will also be joining us for the meeting.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. It will be conducted via video-conferencing and live-streamed on the district YouTube channel

Details about public participation registration for this meeting are available on our website at www.uaschools.org/board.  Anyone addressing the Board may also submit a question with their public participation registration request, and an answer will be provided during the meeting.

Responsible Restart FAQ
We appreciate the many, many families who have taken time to write in with questions regarding our district’s Responsible Restart plan. We are working to frequently update our FAQ page on our website with responses to your questions.

BECS preschool registration
Finally, I want to share that Burbank Early Childhood School (BECS) is now accepting new preschool registrations for children ages 3 to 5 for the 2020-2021 school year. BECS has implemented rigourous health and safety protocols to adhere to the new guidelines from the State of Ohio. To learn more about BECS, please visit our website. Please call 614-487-5155 or email Jeri Zurhorst, program coordinator, to inquire about registration.

Sincerely,
Paul Imhoff, Ed.D.
Superintendent, Upper Arlington Schools
