Dear families,
Hello, everyone, and happy Friday! I hope you’ve had a great week! You can see my video update here.
Golden Apple Awards
We were excited to kick off the week on Monday with a full day of Golden Apple Awards from the Upper Arlington Civic Association. This is a wonderful 40-year tradition in our community, and we were thrilled to be back in person to celebrate our staff this year. Please join us in congratulating the winners from our district:
Jen Barrow, first grade, Windermere Elementary School
Kristin Bugnitz, media specialist, Tremont Elementary School
Sarah Cappel, intervention specialist, Greensview Elementary School
Tina Farbizo, school counselor, Hastings Middle School
Darrion House, intervention specialist, Jones Middle school
Dr. Kathy Moore, college counselor, Upper Arlington High School
Sarah Oberlin, 4 / 5 teacher, Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School
Caren Wildman, first grade, Barrington Elementary School
Irene Hunt, Director of Nutritional Services, district award
Gina Rancitelli, COVID nurse coordinator, COVID award
COVID-19 update
Our COVID-19 update for the week is looking very good. Our cases remain at a very low rate both in our schools and in our community. And as you know, Governor DeWine announced this week that all state health orders regarding the pandemic will be lifted on Wednesday, June 2. This is great news in our fight against COVID-19! With students ages 12 to 15 now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination, we have offered to host another vaccination clinic in our schools. We’ll keep you posted on that.
Board of Education update
At their meeting on Tuesday, the Board of Education approved a resolution regarding the signage of the private toilet room bathroom design in the new and renovated buildings. With this resolution, the Board reaffirmed its position in support of private, all-gender bathroom design but directed the district to comply with the city’s decision regarding the signage. We will work with city officials to determine the number of signs that they feel need to be changed, and then we will order those signs and install them after the last day of school. You can read more about this here.
Summer BRIDGE program
Look for information regarding registration for our Summer BRIDGE for Achievement and Well-Being program next week. The program will take place from June 7 through June 30 and is designed to maximize flexibility for families and provide workshops focused on core academics and social-emotional learning.
Jones Middle School Spring Production
You may have seen the signs around the community - the Jones Fall Pro is presenting a special spring production of FROZEN Kids! This year, family tickets are available for $10 to stream the show directly to their own device at the following showtimes: 7 p.m. Friday, May 21; 7 p.m. Saturday, May 22; and 4 p.m. Sunday, May 23. For information, and to purchase a family ticket or concession goodie bags, please click here.
That does it for my update today. I hope you have a great weekend, and as always, go Bears!
Sincerely,
Paul Imhoff, Ed.D.
