The Board of Education has selected Scott McKenzie as president and Carol Mohr as vice president for 2021.
McKenzie, who served as vice president for 2020, succeeds Nancy Drees as president.
Drees was honored at the Board of Education’s organizational meeting on January 12, 2021 for her service as president of the Upper Arlington Board of Education. McKenzie praised Drees for her tremendous leadership during an unprecedented year in the school district.

Also at the January 12 meeting, the Board of Education approved updated learning mode guidance from the Medical Advisory Team.
Since the fall of 2020, Upper Arlington Schools has been working closely with the Medical Advisory Team to monitor both Upper Arlington health data as well as what’s happening in the county and around the state. These local experts in public health, infectious diseases and the mental health of school-age children are continuing to review and share new and emerging research and information about COVID-19 in schools and the community. As new information emerges, the Medical Advisory Team will continue to update its guidance for the district as the pandemic continues.
The latest learning mode guidance, below, is simply a guide for the Board of Education to consider the continuation of education in a particular learning mode or transition to a different learning mode. This new guidance replaces the matrices previously approved by the Board of Education in 2020.
The guidance is informed by localized data from within the Upper Arlington attendance area through a pilot project with the Ohio State University College of Public Health. The COVID-19 Analytics and Targeted Surveillance (CATS) project provides local school districts with more specific data on what is happening within a school district’s attendance area. This gives our district yet another layer of information that will help the Upper Arlington Board of Education make the best decisions possible as we move forward in the pandemic.
Upper Arlington Schools and the Medical Advisory Team will continue to monitor preliminary local health data and adjust their recommendations based on updated information and data.
