Windermere Weekly Family Update 1-8-21

Below you will see the link to Dr. King’s webinar that was this past Wednesday for our school district community.  It is worth the watch! I learned so much both as a principal and a mom.  I highly recommend that you find the time to take an hour to watch Dr. King.  One of my favorite quotes Dr. King shared during her presentation is above, meaning that as the adults in our children’s life, either as a parent or teacher, the trust the child has in us matters. I hope you enjoy it and it reinforces what you may already know or be experiencing.

Have a great weekend.  Stay healthy, safe and warm!

Julie

Windermere Updates:

The Big Umbrella: I hope you were able to tune in to the Town Hall Webinar on Tuesday! Mrs. Lusk introduced an activity that we would love for all of our Windermere students to do! It involves cutting out a heart from paper and writing something you can do to include others. You can find the activity HERE along with the video of the book and some more information about the book. Students in the Hybrid option will be doing this activity in class with their teachers. Online academy students can do this at home and place in their heart in the clear, plastic envelope on the front doors of the school.  Windermere is a BIG UMBRELLA!

Well-being Webinar with Dr. Emily King

Thank you to all who joined us for our well-being webinar with Dr. Emily King, a nationally recognized child, adolescent and family psychologist. Please click here to view a recording of Dr. King’s presentation on supporting the social and emotional well-being of children and families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ask A Media Specialist support sessions: for caregivers, students, and parents will take place on Wednesdays now that we are following an enhanced hybrid schedule.  "Attendees" can receive technology support with apps and programs as well as support with classroom projects, research, etc.  The times will be 9:00-9:30 and 2:30-3:00.

Here is the Zoom link

Second Semester Cohort Schedule:  As we plan and prepare to return to school after winter break, please click here for the most up to date cohort schedule.  Please be sure to review this document so you are aware of what days your child will report to school when we return from winter break. Our updated hybrid schedule with letter days can be found here.

Arrival and Dismissal and In-Person Reminders:

  • Please remember when dropping your child off at either entrance to pull up to where the adult on duty is waiting to assist.  We kindly ask that your child(ren) are ready to exit the vehicle quickly.  Children should exit on the passenger side of the vehicle for safety purposes.  Thank you!

  • Adults should not get out of the vehicle.  We have adults there to assist.  Thank you!

  • Please remember to have your child wear a mask as they are entering the building.  It is helpful for your child to have extra masks in their backpacks in case they are needed.

  • Please remember to send your child to school with a water bottle as our drinking fountains are unavailable (we do have bottle fillers available).

Attendance:

  • Please continue to let us know if your child is sick or will not be attending Zoom sessions during Enhanced Distance Learning as we will be taking attendance during each Zoom session.  If your child will not be attending for the day or an extended period of time, please contact Ms. Maria by emailing [email protected] or [email protected]. Please fill out a Pre-Planned absence form for extended absences found here

  • If you are emailing your teacher regarding attendance, simply copy [email protected] or [email protected] - no need to send separate emails.  If your child visits a doctor, dentist, etc., please scan/email your excuse so we can note a medically excused absence.

  • If your child is having any technical difficulties that prevent them from attending Zoom, please reach out to the teacher right away.

  • If students are missing special area zooms, they will be marked unexcused, unless there is a notification from a guardian.

Accessing STAR - Important Update

Beginning Monday of next week we are going to remove the STAR App from student iPads. STAR should only be accessed through ClassLink (my.uaschools.org).  Using the app causes authentication errors. We have STAR synced to our in district accounts via ClassLink.  This is the most reliable method for a student to log in.

More information about how to access school resources can be found on the UA Mobile Learning Resources course.

Link to our UA Schools District Website:

  • Please visit our UA schools website for all of the family emails and other important information.  Just scroll down to the social media and news section to read the latest updates from Dr. Imhoff.

Nutritional Services:

  • Please visit the nutritional services website for information about ordering lunch for in-person and away from school days.

  • Click here to pre-order meals.

  • Free lunches will continue through this school year

COVID Reporting:

  • If your student or another member of your household has a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19, please notify COVID Nurse Coordinator Gina Rancitelli, RN, BSN, LSN, at [email protected] or 614-487-5035.

Visitors and Volunteers:

  • Upper Arlington Schools has long appreciated the incredible service and support our families provide by volunteering in our schools. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visitors or volunteers will not be permitted throughout our buildings except for the main office until further notice.

  • Parents/guardians will be permitted to enter the main office to sign out students or drop off items in the main offices of our school buildings. Any visitors to the main office will be required to wear a face mask or covering (covering the nose, mouth and chin) in order to enter the main office. They also must sign in and indicate that they have conducted a self-check that day prior to entering the office. Any meetings with school staff will be by appointment only and conducted via Zoom, our district's video-conferencing tool.

iPad Apps and Resources

The tech department has added a new resource page for students and families regarding district apps, resources, and programs.  On the UA Mobile Learning Resources course you will find the link to this page. The information includes how to access the resource and where to turn if your student has trouble logging in to the resource.

Technology Family Support During the School Year:

  • Families with tech support questions or situations can reach out to [email protected] and share as much information as they can regarding the situation.  We will attempt to work through remote support, but will have daily drop off of devices at The Graf Center.  In situations where a device has to be sent in for repair -- e.g., screen breakage -- the student will be without an iPad for 2-3 days.
