Windermere Weekly Family Update 5-2-21

Windermere Weekly Parent Update

5.2.21

Happy Sunday Windermere families!  It’s hard to believe we are in May already.  We have four weeks of school left in our year.  Wow!

As we enter staff appreciation week, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being the most supportive community out there!  I have said this before and can’t reiterate our sentiments, as parents/families YOU help to make our jobs more meaningful and valued.  We love what we do and hope it shows.  Although this has been a different year, it is one that will never be forgotten.  The commemorative Camp Windermere t-shirt will be cherished, as the 20-21 school year was one in which we all learned a lot, grew professionally and personally and counted our blessings.  Thank you for being such an important part of our profession.  We are all so proud to be HAWKS because Windermere ROCKS!

I wish each of you a great weekend.  Enjoy.

Julie

A Note from Mrs. Porteus

Dear Windermere Staff & Families,

Thank you for the wonderful years I have had teaching & learning with students as well as staff at Windermere!  I'll be retiring at the end of this school year and it is truly bitter, sweet to leave all the amazing children, families & friends I have treasured over the years.

It has been my honor to work with our outstanding staff at Upper Arlington Schools!  How special it has been to see children's smiles as well as laughter when learning and reading books!  I am so grateful for my time both as a classroom and reading teacher helping children.  My heart is full as life continues on to the next chapter as I wish health, happiness & joyful days ahead for you all!

Fondly,

Ruthie Porteus

21-22 Teacher Name/Class Placement:  We will be sending out emails on Friday, July 30 to let you know who your child(ren) will have as a teacher next year.  We are SO excited about our year together in our new building!  Your child will be watching a video in his/her classroom at the end of the year with their respective teacher(s) introducing themselves as a team.  This will give all students an opportunity to meet all grade level teachers at their entering grade level.  Since we do so much as grade level teams, we thought this would be a good replacement for step-up day.

Library Media Center News

We're moving...again!  As the library is preparing to be packed up and moved out for the summer, checkouts are coming to an end Friday, May 7th.  All books will be due back by Friday, May 14th.  If you have a long overdue book and need to make arrangements to replace it, please reach out to our library clerk Mrs. Hartmus ([email protected]) and she will gladly help.  Summer reading information coming home soon from UAPL! Let's keep those Hawks reading this summer!

Family Read Together Movie Night!

Please join us Thursday evening, May 6th at the Mountview Christian Church parking lot for a Drive In movie viewing of Stuart Little!  Parking will start at 6:15 at the Shoreham Road entrance.  All families must remain together in or next to their vehicle (lawn chairs permitted). Parent supervision is required at this event and masks must be worn when outside of vehicles.   Audio for the movie can be accessed on the radio (101.5 FM).  We will have access to the building for restroom use only.

Click here to RSVP for the event!

We will raffle off prizes starting at 6:45.  Must be present to win! Mrs. Hemmelgarn is looking for photos of your family reading the book together to be displayed on movie night.  Please email her at [email protected] with your picture!  Thank you PTO for helping host and fund this annual event!  Keep reading Windermere Hawks!

The Burbank Early Childhood School (BECS):  is currently accepting preschool applications for children ages 3 to 5 years for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year! Next year BECS will continue to follow riguous health and safety protocols while simultaneously providing children with an unparalleled education. Call 614-487-5155 to learn more about enrolling your child.

Syntero Update:  Please see the attached offerings for summer.

Lost and Found: Please make sure your students are frequently checking our lost and found items. If your student is missing something that is not in our lost and found, please feel free to check the Wickliffe lost and found. You can call them at 614-487-5150. All items will be donated at the end of the school year.

Withdrawing Students and Seniors

Families with confirmed plans on moving or withdrawing from UACS must turn in their iPad’s and/or laptops on the last day of school to their homeroom teacher or the media specialist.

Families who move or withdraw over the summer months must return the district owned iPad to The Graf Center and can make arrangements by emailing [email protected]. Failure to return the iPad will result in a $310 fee and a transcript hold until the device is returned or the fee is paid. Additionally the iPad will be remotely locked and unusable.  Building secretaries and administrators are to notify withdrawing families of this requirement at the time of withdrawal, and copy [email protected].

Use Google TakeOut to Move Your School Files to Another Account Before the Last Day of School

This is important for Seniors and Withdrawing Families

Please Watch This Video on how to use Google TakeOut for Schools and follow the directions BEFORE your last day of school.  If you have used your school email address to sign up for memberships or accounts to different sites, make sure you change those accounts because you will lose access to your school email at the end of June.

School Technology Devices Must Remain in the Country

This is a reminder that district-owned devices - laptops and iPads - are not permitted outside the country.  If you are planning on traveling outside of the country the device should be left at home or school in a secure location.  Since our devices are proxied and we do not allow access to our network from devices that reside outside of the United States, your device would most likely not be able to connect to content anyway.
