Upper Arlington Schools family update - April 16, 2021

Dear families,

Hello, everyone, and happy Friday! I hope you’ve had a great week!

I have a few updates today. You can watch my video update here.

Current COVID-19 data

We are encouraged to continue to see the leveling off of positive cases in our schools, but we are also aware that the situation isn’t the same across Franklin County as a whole. The county was elevated to “purple” on the state alert system this week, but Franklin County Public Health advised that school and work can continue as normal with health and safety precautions in place. Public health acknowledges that we know a lot more about what we can do to reduce the spread of this virus - including wearing masks and getting vaccinated.

Another important health and safety precaution everyone can take is staying home if you’re experiencing any symptoms or if someone in your household is awaiting test results. These are easy steps we can take to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Every one of our schools has free at-home rapid test kits available. If you need to pick one up for your student, please contact your school nurse for details.

We know things can change quickly, and we will continue to watch the situation in the county and our schools closely, in partnership with our very own Medical Advisory Team. We appreciate everything you are doing to keep our schools safe and healthy.

UAHS student vaccine clinic

We were excited to do our part to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 by hosting a vaccination clinic at the high school this week, in partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, for our students who are 16 and older. This was a great example of our value of Strength in Team. Many thanks to our secretarial and custodial staff at the high school and everyone from Children’s Hospital who pitched in to make the clinic a great success!

Summer programming

I want to thank all of the families who took time to complete the survey on Summer BRIDGE To Achievement and Well-Being programming for students. If you weren’t able to complete the survey in the past week, don’t worry - we simply wanted to get an idea of the interest in such programming. More information will be coming about this in the coming weeks.

Alumni Association hosts walkthrough of current high school

And finally, I want to share a reminder that you can join the Upper Arlington Alumni Association this Sunday, April 18, from noon to 3 p.m. for a walk-through of the current high school building. We’ll be decommissioning the building at the end of the school year as we prepare for the next phase of the construction process on the high school site. We are looking forward to the grand opening of the new Upper Arlington High School as we start the 2021-2022 school year in August!

That does it for my update this week. Have a great weekend, and as always, go Bears!
