Updates from the February 9, 2021 Board of Education meeting

Dear Upper Arlington families,

I wanted to provide some updates following the snow day and Board of Education meeting yesterday.

Hybrid learning schedule update

Yesterday marked our second Tuesday calamity day in a row, and the second lost in-person day for cohort 1 students in two weeks.  Without a change to the hybrid learning schedule, that meant that our cohort 1 students would have only 5 in-person learning days in February compared to 8 days for cohort 2.

To provide more balance, we are switching the EDL days scheduled for Wednesday, February 17 and Wednesday, March 3 to in-person learning days for cohort 1. These days will now be independent remote learning for cohort 2. Click here to see the updated hybrid learning schedule.

All-in learning updates

During last night’s meeting, the Board of Education discussed a return to all-in learning and the possibility of doing so earlier than March 23 for at least some grade levels. The Board will hold a special meeting at 3 p.m. on Friday, February 12 to continue this discussion.

The meeting will be conducted via Zoom and available to watch on our YouTube channel.  I’ll also hold off on my weekly update until after the meeting to share a summary of the Board’s discussion and any action taken.

Responsible Restart Plan

You may recall that we first shared our Responsible Restart Plan back in July.  As we prepare for a return to all-in learning, we have been working with our Medical Advisory Team to update the plan with more details about what all-in learning will look like in our schools. You can view the updated version here.

All-call number

In the event of inclement weather or an emergency, families will receive a call from our Upper Arlington Schools all-call phone number - (614) 363-2262 - at the contact points provided in your student’s back-to-school forms. Please add our all-call number to your contacts to help ensure that the call goes through and is not labeled as “spam” by your cellphone provider. Any weather-related cancellations or delays will also be communicated via email, on Facebook and Twitter (@imhoffpaul or @UA_Schools), and via the TV news stations.

That does it for my mid-week update.  I’ll have more information for you following the Board of Education meeting on Friday.

Sincerely,

Paul Imhoff, Ed.D.

Superintendent, Upper Arlington Schools
