Windermere Weekly Family Update 8-27-21

Windermere Weekly Parent Update

8.27.21

Happy Friday, Windermere!!!!  It was a great FULL week.  Thank you so much for coming on Tuesday evening to Parent Information Night.  It was so wonderful to see so many new faces and faces that I haven’t seen in what feels like a very long time.  I hope the evening was informative and an opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher, grade level team and learn about what your child’s year will look like over the coming months.

And a very special thank you to the amazing parents who came out today to celebrate a fantastic start to our school year.  What a special treat to be greeted

In my updates, I try to keep the information in pieces, so that you can quickly scan this document.  Each update includes information for the week and coming weeks so that you can plan accordingly.

Above is the visual we created for our staff this year.  I wanted you to see it too.  This helps to frame our focus for the year with our professional development.  In updates this year, I will share with you what our staff is learning on early release days and at our staff meetings.  In the center of this visual you will see the heart with our students in the middle.  Everything we do is focused on what is best for the students at Windermere.  How are we working daily to live our mission and vision? Our professional development focus this year is learning about MTSS, which is an acronym for Multi Tiered Systems of Support.  As part of this MTSS process, we will be meeting regularly to review student data to ensure that we have the appropriate instruction in place to ensure that every child is challenged and supported. We accomplish this through: starting with heart, our strength in team, and contagious drive. Throughout the next few months, in our updates you will get to meet our teams at Windermere and learn what those values, beliefs and outcomes mean to each of us and our respective teams.    More to come!

Have the best weekend.

Upcoming Dates:

9.2.21 - School Picture Day

9.3.21 - Windermere Way Day

9.6.21 - Labor Day - NO SCHOOL

From the Nurse Office:

Welcome to the new school year!  Our nurses are available to administer first aid treatment and other medical procedures.  We will evaluate symptoms of illness or injury of students and recommend appropriate treatment.  The clinic is staffed every school day.  The nurse will notify appropriate teachers and staff of student health problems that may be of concern in the classroom.

The Ohio Department of Health requires vision and hearing screenings for children in kindergarten, first, third and fifth grade and all students new to the district each year.  These screenings will be done this fall. Screenings can also be performed at various other times during the year at parent or teacher request. Should you wish to opt your student out of vision and hearing screenings this year, please complete and return this form to us: 2021-2022 Vision and Hearing Screening Waiver

Students who have difficulty with the initial screening are re-screened.  If there still appears to be a difficulty, parents are notified and follow-up by a health care provider is suggested.

All incoming kindergartners and all students new to the school are required to have their immunizations completed and a record of dates submitted to the nurse’s office, as well as a physical exam.  If you have any questions regarding the immunizations required to enter kindergarten, they can be found here (please note the requirements for 2021-22 are the same as for 20-21): Immunization Summary for School Attendance

If your child has a special health concern of which we are not already aware, such as a food allergy, asthma, etc., or an update to a previous health concern, please let us know so we can best serve their needs during the school year.

Many questions arise regarding the administration of medication at school.  While we encourage medication to be administered at home, we understand this is not always possible.  All medication administered at school requires written authorization from the student’s physician (for prescription medication) as well as written parental permission.  Parents can sign for over-the-counter medications.  Medication authorization forms can be found on the district website at: UA Health Forms

Our district continues to follow Franklin County Public Health Department protocol related to COVID-19, that asks that students be kept home for fever (100.4°F or higher), new or worsened cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, diarrhea or vomiting, and/or new onset of a severe headache. Should your student exhibit any of these symptoms, the quickest way to return to school (if fever free) is through documentation of a negative COVID test, indicating these symptoms are not related to COVID-19.  Free rapid home BinaxNOW testing kits are available at all of our schools. A summary chart of this protocol can be found here: When To Keep Your Student Home and What To Do. If you have questions related to exposure to COVID-19, or need to report a positive case, please reach out to us, and we can offer guidance.

Should you have any other questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

iPad Protection Plan Fee - Closing Window for Payment on September 3

Please remind all students and families that the $25 protection plan fee must be paid through SPSEZPay.com by Sept. 3.

If the fee is not paid by September 3 and an incident occurs, families will be responsible for the full cost of the repair or replacement. Prices that could be incurred if the protection plan fee is not paid are outlined here:

Reminder about iPad Chargers

Students were provided one charger and charging cable when issued their original iPad.

The charger, charging cable and stylus are not covered by the Protection Plan. If those components are misplaced, damaged or stop working for any reason, it is the responsibility of the family to replace them.  We recommend Apple or Apple MFi-Certified cables and 12 watt chargers.

Students having trouble signing into ClassLink?

In the iPad app, you must see the UA Logo on the sign in page. If our logo does not appear, tap the back button at the upper left, then search for and select our district. Now students will be able to sign in!

Apple TVs

Staff members and students are not permitted to log in to any district owned Apple TV with a personal Apple ID in order to access their own personal streaming services or files.
