Important update on school staff COVID-19 vaccinations and schedule changes

Dear Upper Arlington families,

I want to share some important news about the COVID-19 vaccination plans for school staff members in Franklin County.

We received word this week that state officials are working with Franklin County Public Health and Kroger to set up two large vaccination clinics next week to accommodate school employees from across the county. The vaccination clinics will be held February 2 through February 6 and will be serving approximately 17,000 school staff members in our county in that time frame. A separate clinic will be held by Columbus Public Health for staff members in Columbus City Schools and Worthington City Schools.  This is a huge undertaking - and all with the goal of better serving our students here and across the county.

In order to maximize the opportunities all of our UA Schools staff members have to schedule an appointment, we will be modifying the school schedule for preK-12 students next week. All K-12 school-based and Online Academy students will wrap up their school day early on Tuesday, February 2 and Thursday, February 4 based on the schedules below:

K-12 school-based pathway - Tuesday, February 2 and Thursday, February 4

  • Kindergarten: enhanced distance learning with early release

    • Hybrid group 1 - both AM and PM classes - will learn through EDL on Tuesday morning.

    • Hybrid group 2 - both AM and PM classes - will learn through EDL on Thursday morning.

    • EDL will conclude by 11:05 a.m. for all students, except Wickliffe - which will conclude at 12:05 a.m.

    • If any PM families have challenges or conflicts with attending EDL on their respective morning, please email your teacher.

  • Grades 1-5 (except Wickliffe) and 9-12: 11:05 a.m. release

  • Grades 6-8: 11:45 a.m. release

  • Wickliffe Grades 1-5: 12:05 p.m. release

Online Academy - Tuesday, February 2 and Thursday, February 4

  • Grades K-5 and 9-12: 11:05 a.m. release

  • Grades 6-8: 11:45 a.m. release

Burbank Early Childhood School schedule - Wednesday, February 3

  • There will be no school on Wednesday, February 3 for children enrolled in BECS.

  • The ESC Preschool program at Burbank will maintain their normal schedule.

Staff members will be able to receive second vaccinations at clinics the week of February 22 — so we will also follow the same schedule for K-12 students on Tuesday, February 23 and Thursday, February 25. There will be no school for BECS children on Wednesday, February 24. Please look for more information in your school’s weekly update.

Busing will be available to the students who normally use district transportation. Grab-and-go lunches will be available for preorder for in-person students, and weekly meal packs will also be available to students learning remotely via a form on our website.

We are grateful for this opportunity to be among the first school staff members to receive the vaccine in the state of Ohio, and we will not take that for granted. This is an exciting step that will help us ensure the best possible experience and continuity of education for our students.

Sincerely,

Paul Imhoff, Ed.D.
