Listen, Learn and Lead Community Engagement Process

Listen Learn Lead logoFor generations, the Upper Arlington community has played an integral role in supporting the success of Upper Arlington Schools and its students. As we seek to prepare the next generation for this rapidly changing world, it is critically important that our schools adjust and adapt to meet the needs of our students today and tomorrow.

The Upper Arlington Board of Education has launched a community engagement process to listen, learn and lead in an effort to help Upper Arlington Schools be the best it can be — for many years to come. Our goal is to hear different view points from as many students, families, community members and staff members as possible as we seek to shape the future of our schools. Through this process, we hope to encourage meaningful, open and respectful dialogue.

We invite you to be part of this process — and to join the many voices in our community as we listen, learn and lead.

March 2022 — Community Roundtable Discussions

Number of roundtable sessions completed: 7

Total points of contact: more than 150 parents, staff members and community members and nearly 200 students

In March of 2022, the Board of Education launched the Listen Learn Lead process with a series of community roundtable discussions offered between March 9 and March 31, with morning, afternoon, evening and virtual options available, as well as additional opportunities for students to provide feedback.

Through a “world cafe” style process, hundreds of students, staff members, parents and community members engaged in discussions and documented their feedback on five topic areas stemming from the district’s strategic plan: our district’s strengths; whole learning (academics); student and staff well-being; finances; and communications.

“We have seen a lot of energy in our community around our Listen Learn Lead process,” Board of Education President Lori Trent said. “It’s been exciting to see community members, staff members and students engaged in conversations about their vision and priorities for the future of our schools.”

NOW THROUGH MAY 11 — Online Community Survey

The next step in the Listen Learn Lead community engagement process is an online survey based on the themes that emerged from the roundtable discussions on five topic areas stemming from the district’s strategic plan: our district’s strengths; whole learning (academics); student and staff well-being; finances; and communications.

The survey is open to parents, community members and staff members, and there is also a student-specific path of the survey. It will take approximately five minutes to complete.

The survey will remain open through Wednesday, May 11.

May / June 2022

Following the completion of the survey window, a findings report based on all of the data points from this process will be shared with the Board of Education late this spring. The report, which will be posted on this webpage, will serve as an important guide for the Board of Education in determining future plans for the district.

As the Board of Education shared when launching the Listen Learn Lead initiative, this is a first step in an ongoing commitment to engaging our community. Please look for more details to come in the future!
