Windermere Weekly Family Update 9-27-21

Windermere Weekly Parent Update

9.26.21

Meet our Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) teaching team!!!  We are so lucky to work with this AWESOME group of professionals.  Our DHH team has been at Windermere for 19 years.  From left to right are:  Ms. Kelli Henery, Mrs. Karen Knight, Mrs. Jen Savage, Ms. Hannah Geissinger, Ms. Cynthia Kim, and Mrs. Denise Westlake.  Mrs. Savage is our intervention specialist on the team, and the other staff above are our amazing interpreters.  In the picture below are: Mrs. Marissa Gaines (occupational therapist for our DHH students) and Mrs. Amanda Meadows (speech language pathologist for our DHH students).   The sign above means “I Love You.” In class during Wake Up Windermere, we learn different signs that our students can use throughout the day.

As I shared a few weeks ago, we are so grateful for the time we have during early release days.  Wednesday our staff spent 2.5 hours learning about components of our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).  This is how we individualize and support every student at Windermere.  Each day we work hard to challenge and support EVERY student every step of the way.   Thank you for this time.  We value and appreciate it.

I hope you have had a great weekend!

Julie

Meet Mr. & Mrs. Heydlauff!  This past week, they toured the building and saw the Heydlauff Media Center.  The Heydlauff children went to Windermere and their gift is certainly appreciated so much.  Thank you!  We know how important our Media Center is at Windermere.  It is a loved space that is utilized daily and loved by all.

DEI Meeting and Committee:  Our charge: is to develop staff, student & community mindsets around culture, identity and learning to promote awareness and acceptance.  We are excited to meet as a team in late October.  I am hoping to have a date in our next update, if you are interested in joining our team please email me ([email protected]).  Windermere’s Family Cultures and Traditions night is scheduled for Tuesday, January 11, 2022.  We sure hope many families will participate.  More details to follow.

Quick Things to Try Before Submitting a Help Desk Ticket

Having problems with an iPad app? Try quitting the app by double-clicking the Home Button, then swiping up on the misbehaving app thumbnail. Press Home once and try the app again.

For Any Device — Restart. The first thing to try with any other issue is to restart the device. On your Mac, choose Restart from the Apple menu. On an iPad, hold both the Power and Home buttons until the device restarts.

Your display cart having issues with AirPlay? Unplug the cart from the wall for 20-30 seconds.

Restarting your device can often avoid the need for additional support.

More info on solving problems can be found here: 5.2 | Solving iPad Problems on the UA Mobile Learning Resources site.

Panorama SEL Survey (this applies to grades 3, 4 and 5 only):

Dear Upper Arlington families,

Upper Arlington Schools will engage in the Panorama social-emotional survey for students in grades 3-12 starting the week of October 4th. As you may recall, we piloted Panorama last spring. The survey aligns with the well-being priority in our strategic plan and provides valuable feedback to inform our work to support students, which is critically important to academic achievement.

Survey content

The survey asks your child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning by answering questions in the areas of self-management, social awareness, emotion regulation, supportive relationships, sense of belonging, and diversity and inclusion (grades 6-12 only). If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, or doesn’t feel comfortable answering a question, they can skip the item altogether. You can preview the questions here.

Confidentiality

Student responses are kept in the strictest confidence. Anonymous, aggregate level results will be used to design specific supports for individual schools and grade levels.

Opting Out

To ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous experiences that meet the needs of our learners to prepare them for college, career, and life, we ask that all of our students participate. However, as with all surveys, Panorama is voluntary. If you wish to opt your child out of the Panorama survey, simply email your child’s school counselor before the week of October 4, and we will honor that request.

Survey window

The survey window will open the week of October 4, 2021. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. Online Academy (OA) students will take the survey during the same window of time. Our OA families will receive a separate communication about administering the survey remotely.

If your child is absent on the day of the survey, they can complete it at any time from home or school on their iPad, during the survey window. For instructions to take the survey from home, please email your school counselor.

If you have questions, please contact me at [email protected].

Thank you for your partnership and support.

Sincerely,

Andy Hatton, Ed.D.

Associate Superintendent of Learning and Leadership
