ATTENDANCE REMINDERS FOR ALL STUDENTS - The following is a friendly reminder about our attendance policy. It is important when reporting absences to give enough information, so we can determine excusal.

Reasons for an Excused Absence:

  • Illness of the child
  • Appointment with a health care provider
  • Illness in the family necessitating the presence of the child
  • Quarantine of the home
  • Absence due to a student's placement in foster care or change in foster care placement of any court proceeds related to the student's foster care status
  • Observation or celebration of a bona fide religious holiday
  • College visit (up to 3)
  • Absences due to the student's homeless status
  • Death of a relative
  • Medically necessary leave
  • Emergency or other set of circumstances in which the judgment of the Superintendent of Schools constitutes good and sufficient cause for absence from school
  • Service as a precinct officer at a primary, special or general election
  • To help ensure accuracy, please be as specific as possible when reporting absences. Phrases such as “personal reasons” or  “overslept” cannot be connected to one of the allowable excused absence reasons above.

Families are permitted up to ten (10) instances to call their child off school for a health or mental health reason, per school year, without a note from a licensed health provider; these are excused. When ten instances are surpassed, a note from a provider is required to be excused.

Please continue to use the pre-planned absence form for any situations that fall outside of the above excused reasons.  The district can approve a limited amount of hours for pre-planned absences.

To submit an absence at Jones, please email Denise Pontious ([email protected]) or call the attendance office at (614-487-5077 x3500).

Thank you in advance, as we work together to ensure your child’s attendance records accurately reflect the reason for their absence.
