Health clinic update

Effective March 1, the CDC has updated its COVID guidelines, discontinuing the quarantine period for positive test results.  Franklin County Public Health is also adopting these new guidelines.  At this time, students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 may return to school when well enough to participate, and they have been fever free for more than 24 hours without the use of fever reduction medication.

Our school nurses track communicable illnesses and work with local public health agencies to mitigate potential outbreaks. We request if your student is diagnosed with or treated for a communicable illness (strep, pinkeye, influenza, COVID-19, lice, etc.), that you report the illness to the school nurse.  Thank you for partnering with us to ensure our schools are a healthy learning environment for all of our students.

Safety Education Information

Dear Greensview Families,

In April, the elementary school counselors will deliver classroom lessons on ways to stay safe and speak up. Senate Bill 288, signed by Ohio Governor DeWine in January 2023, requires annual lessons for Ohio’s K-6 students in child sexual abuse prevention.

Upper Arlington City Schools will use instructional materials from the Second Step Child Protection Unit for the required lessons this year.  For a broad overview of the program, you can visit the website at: https://www.secondstep.org/child-protection. We are also using the books Your Body Belongs to You by Cornelia Spelman and No Means No by Jayneen Sanders during the lessons.

A brief overview of the general topics that will be covered include:

  • Safe and Unsafe/Unwanted touches:

    • Safe touches are positive and caring, while unsafe/unwanted touches hurt your body or make you feel uncomfortable

    • How to say no assertively to unwanted touches

    • The Touching Rule: No one should touch your private body parts

  • Intuition:

    • Use your intuition to recognize unsafe and unwanted touches

  • Reporting to an adult:

    • How to tell a trusted adult if unwanted touches happen

    • Identify caring adults to talk to about unwanted behaviors

    • Demonstrate how to report to an adult

Please look for a detailed letter following the lesson in your child’s class.  This will give you talking points, questions to ask your child, and additional resources to continue this important conversation at home.

If you have any questions, please let me know!  I look forward to partnering with you to teach your child about staying SAFE, STRONG, AND FREE.

Best,

Laura Kunkle, School Counselor

From the Library:

Hello Greensview Families,

Here’s a March Book Madness update. Last week, the K-5 students chose their favorite wordless picture books for round #1 voting.  The image above shows the winning books.  This week, students will do round #2 voting.  Next week, students will do round #3 voting to select the one winning title.  I wonder which book will win this year’s competition.

Spring Break Food Support - The district is partnering with the Tri-Village Packers to support their Spring Break 2024 food distribution program. The Tri-Village Packers will distribute groceries to families with UA students for the days when school is not in session. The food will be provided at no cost to district families experiencing food insecurity who would benefit from additional food.

We know that spring break occurs during a season of religious and cultural holidays that impact dietary practices. Volunteers will try to honor any restrictions you share with us to support your nutritional needs while recognizing your obligations.

To sign up for this round of food distribution, please complete this form by March 1, 2024. Once registered, you will receive an order number allowing you to pick up your food at the Upper Arlington Senior Center on March 21, 2024, between 3:30 and 6 p.m.  If you cannot pick up your food, arrangements can be made for delivery.

Please contact Kristyn Anderson in the district office with questions about this opportunity at  [email protected]
